In its second year running, the 2017 AFL 9s Classic is an exciting national event taking place in Sydney from Friday 24th November to Sunday 26th November. The Classic gives all AFL enthusiasts the chance to play the social game for fun and the chance to win great cash prizes in the heart of Sydney.

What is it?

The popularity of AFL 9s as the official modified, non-contact version of AFL, continues to grow across the country. Played with 9 players per side on a small ground, AFL 9s is fun and fast. You can learn more about the rules of AFL 9s here.

The AFL 9s Classic brings together players from community football Clubs and AFL 9s teams from across Australia to compete against each other in an annual tournament. With great food, entertainment and an exciting atmosphere, this year’s Classic promises to be another exciting event.

More detailed information about the 2017 AFL 9s Classic will be available in the coming weeks, including a special offer for interstate travelers. Registrations open on Friday 7th July, so stay tuned to reserve your spot.

The Schools Classic

A fun and social morning for high school students.

10am-2pm Fri 24 Nov

The Schools Competition involves a fun and social morning of AFL 9s designed just for high school students, taking place from 10am – 2pm on Friday 24th November. We invite schools from the Sydney district and beyond to join us for a round-robin style competition, hear from special AFL guests and enjoy a unique experience. With a minimum of three games played per team before finals, Schools will compete for ultimate bragging rights – being crowned the 2017 AFL 9s Classic School champions.

The Corporate Classic

The perfect team building afternoon for workmates

2pm-6pm Fri 24th Nov

The Corporate Competition is the perfect team-building afternoon, getting staff out of the office and into an exciting setting. Taking place from 2pm-6pm on Friday 24th November, businesses from around Sydney are invited to enter a team for an afternoon of great fun and team work. Teams will attend a lunch with well-known AFL guest speakers, before moving to the Queens Park precinct to play in a round-robin style competition. The Corporate Classic is a truly unique team experience that cannot be missed.

The Open Classic

Compete for the chance to win awesome prize money

9am Sat 25 Nov – 5pm Sun 26th Nov

The Open competition will take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th November and comprises of five categories. For mixed teams you have three category options; ‘Advanced’ for highly skilled players wanting to compete for the biggest cash prizes, ‘Intermediate’ for those more interested in having fun than competing at a high level, and ‘Over 35s’ for those aged 35 and above. There are also two addition categories, ‘Men’s’ and ‘Women’s’, for those who wish to play in single-gender competitions. All teams entered in any of the five categories will play a minimum of three games before finals.

Before You Register


Get Your Team
Together

If you are currently playing in an AFL 9s competition, chances are you have a team ready to go! If you haven't played AFL 9s before, all you need to do is recruit nine players plus substitutes. Most teams have between 10-12 players on their list.


Select Your
Competition

Teams needs to select what competition they would like to enter, choosing from Schools, Corporate and Open Classic options. For those teams registering in The Open Classic, you will then need to decide what division is most appropriate for your team's skill level and aspiration.
