Mental Fitness Charter

Grow Your Game with Mental Fitness

FOOTBALL MENTAL FITNESS CHARTER

This Charter offers guidance to help clubs foster positive, mentally healthy environments, centred around five supportive commitments. Complete a Quick Wins Action Plan and Pledge your Club’s commitment to Mental Fitness.

Mental fitness helps us cope with stress and life challenges, and is something we can build, maintain and grow individually and collectively.

Mental Fitness can be integrated into your club’s everyday activities and coaching drills. If staying mentally fit is already a focus, take it a step further and implement an evidence-based program that teaches players and coaches the psychological skills that underpin mental fitness.

Mental health literacy helps us recognise concerns early and feel confident supporting ourselves or others. Challenging stigma makes it easier for people to reach out for help when they need it. Champion mental fitness by hosting a mental health round.

People experience different factors that can influence their mental health. When clubs work to minimise these risks, it helps create a welcoming and safe place for all.

A culture of wellbeing focuses on creating a supportive environment for everyone in the club. When this is prioritised, it helps people feel included, enjoy their involvement and perform at their best.

Football communities can face crises or critical incidents, such as serious accidents or other extraordinary events that may affect the wellbeing of players, members and families. Having response plans and teams in place at the start of each season ensures the club is prepared.

MENTAL FITNESS CHARTER PLEDGE

The AFL encourages community football clubs to play their role in promoting their community’s mental health and wellbeing by signing a pledge to implement the five commitments of the mental fitness charter and building a Mental Fitness Quick Wins Action Plan. By becoming a mentally fit club, clubs can support the mental health and wellbeing of their communities.
