Senior Coach Women’s – Glenorchy District Football Club

Glenorchy District Football Club is inviting expressions of interest from an experienced coach, former AFLW-listed player, AFLW pathway coach or elite-level football leader for a significant senior coaching and football development leadership role in Tasmania.
This opportunity is suited to a motivated football leader who can coach, mentor and develop a senior football program while helping shape standards across the broader club. The role requires strong football knowledge, high personal standards, clear communication and a genuine commitment to building people, culture and performance.

Club Background and History
Glenorchy District Football Club has a proud and deep connection to Tasmanian football. The Club’s origins trace back to the New Town Football Club, which was reformed in 1919 and joined the Tasmanian Football League senior competition in 1921. In 1945, under the district football system, the Club became New Town District Football Club, before changing its name to Glenorchy District Football Club in 1957 and relocating to King George V Oval at Glenorchy.
Known as the Magpies and strongly identified with its black-and-white colours, Glenorchy has built a respected football legacy across more than a century of competition. The Club has celebrated premiership success across different eras, has been home to notable Tasmanian football figures, and continues to play an important role in senior, women’s, junior and community football. Its history gives this role genuine meaning: the successful candidate will not simply be joining a football club, but contributing to a proud institution with a responsibility to develop the next generation of players, coaches and community leaders.

About the Opportunity
This is a rare opportunity to combine senior coaching, football leadership and club-wide development in one influential role. The successful candidate will help strengthen GDFC’s senior women’s program, raise training and preparation standards, and bring elite football habits into the local environment. With Tasmania preparing for its future in the AFL national competition, football across the state is entering an exciting new era. This role provides an opportunity to be part of that momentum by supporting player development, coaching education, school and community engagement, and stronger links between grassroots football and elite pathways. GDFC is seeking a leader who can bring credibility, energy and long-term thinking to this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities
• Lead, coach and mentor the GDFC Women’s team, setting clear standards for preparation, training, performance and culture.
• Provide strong coaching leadership at Premier League community level, modelling competitiveness, discipline and team-first behaviours.

• Introduce AFLW-standard coaching principles, leadership behaviours and high-performance expectations into the club environment.
• Build a strong, positive and sustainable football culture that attracts, retains and develops players, coaches and volunteers.

Desirable Candidate Profile
The desirable candidate will be an experienced senior coach, former AFLW-listed player, AFLW pathway coach or elite-level football leader with strong leadership qualities, a genuine passion for coaching and the ability to influence players across senior, development and junior programs. They will bring credibility, high-level football knowledge, emotional maturity, excellent communication skills and a willingness to invest in the growth of football in the Glenorchy community. The Club is seeking someone who understands that coaching is not only about game plans and match-day performance, but about developing people, building trust and leaving a lasting legacy.

Package and Support
The package and support arrangements will be negotiated with the successful candidate in line with their experience, qualifications, availability and the final scope and requirements of the role. This may include an appropriate remuneration structure and agreed support to assist the candidate’s transition and enable them to make a meaningful football and community impact in Glenorchy.

How to Express Interest
Interested experienced coaches, former AFLW-listed players, AFLW pathway coaches and elite-level football leaders are invited to submit an expression of interest outlining their coaching philosophy, leadership experience, football development background, community interests and motivation for helping grow football at Glenorchy District Football Club.
