Concussion 101

Concussion 101 is your personal playbook for handling concussion like a pro.
Section 1

Become A Club That Champions Concussion Care

1. Boost Your Team's Concussion Smarts

Get your sport trainers, first aiders and volunteers up to speed with the AFL's free Online Concussion and Injury Management Module. Or to really level up your concussion knowledge, check out the AFL webinar Practical Guide to Concussion Management. The more people who can spot and manage concussions, the safer we all are. It's a team effort!

2. Put Concussion Care Front and Centre

Make concussion care impossible to miss. Check out our Helpful Resources page for posters you can pin up around your club. They're great for helping everyone keep concussion care front of mind.

3. Spread the Message

We all know ‘If in doubt, sit them out’ – but make sure you tell players, ‘It’s okay to sit out’!
Help your players understand that sometimes, the bravest move is to sit it out. Even if a player only has mild symptoms, sitting isn’t quitting – it's the fastest track back to the sport they love.

4. Learn Together, Grow Together

Bring your club together to watch our Concussion Explained video series. It's a great way to get everyone on the same page about concussion basics. You could also host a special session for parents with our Concussion 101 series, designed to help everyone feel more comfortable understanding and responding to concussion. When everyone's informed, we all win.

5. Keep Help on Hand

Empower your committee, parents and guardians with our handy guides. Think of them as your concussion care cheat sheets! Our Match Day Guide has your back on game day, while the At Home Guide helps you navigate the road to recovery. Bookmark, download, print or screenshot them for help when you need it.

6. Stay on Form

Keep your team sharp with the right tools: make sure everyone's familiar with the Headcheck app and knows how to use the CRT 6 form, as well as the Match Day forms and Medical Clearance form – head to our Helpful Resources page for more.
