Danny Brennan
Skilful wingman/back pocket who debuted as a 17-year-old in 1967 and played 319 games (third on all time record behind Syd Guildford, 333 and Owen Backwell, 323) at Sandgate through the club’s golden era of the 1970s, sharing four premierships in 1970-71-74-79. Played five times for Queensland. Displayed a penchant for coaching at a young age when he took on junior roles at Sandgate while still in his teens. In 1982 he was appointed coach of the Queensland Teal Cup side, a position he held until 1985, and in 1984 was named as Assistant Coach of the All Australian Teal Cup side selected at the conclusion of the Carnival.
Later coached at senior level at Sandgate and Southport, and briefly at Wilston Grange, posting a record 100-point grand final winning margin with the Sharks over Mt Gravatt in ’97. Has spent a total of 38 years (31 Sandgate, 7 Southport) as a player, coach or administrator.
In 2023, Brennan was named in Sandgate’s Team of 80 Years.
