AFLW Pre-Season Draft
Nominations for the AFLW Pre-Season Draft will open on 13 April 2026 at 9am (AEST) and close on 29 April 2026 at 5pm (AEST).

Nominations will open on 9am (AEST) Monday, April 13th and close at 5pm (AEST) Wednesday, April 29th. No late nominations will be accepted.
Nominations are to be completed via play.afl/draftnominations.
The AFL will notify AFL Clubs and State Bodies of players who have nominated for the AFLW Pre-season Draft.
A player is eligible to nominate for the AFLW Pre-Season Draft if they successfully nominated for, but were not selected at, the 2025 AFLW National Draft.
Any player selected in the AFLW Pre-Season Draft will be provided with a one-year Tier Four contract ($70,030).
Should a selected player be required to relocate, they will be provided with relocation benefits as set out in the CBA, including:
- Reasonable costs associated with relocating the player and their belongings.
- Living allowance of up to $16,500 for the purposes of supporting rent, living expenses etc.
- Player and Family travel and accommodation, including up to 6 return economy flights or petrol allowance for 6 trips and 4 nights accommodation at the Player’s new location.
It is up to Clubs to determine whether they need to interview a player and/or conduct a medical assessment.
If a nominated player was medically screened as a part of the 2025 draft combine, their medical information can be available from AFL medical staff on request.
AFLW Pre-Season Draft - Frequently Asked Questions
The evening of Monday, 4 May. Exact timings will be confirmed closer to the date.
Any player who successfully nominated for the 2025 AFLW National Draft is eligible to nominate for this Draft.
If an eligible 19 yr old AFL Academy member - either through the Northern Academies or through Next Generation Academies - opts to nominate for the AFLW Pre-Season Draft, they can be selected by any club. However, if they elect against doing so - or if they're not selected in the AFLW Pre-Season Draft - they keep their eligibility for their respective Academy sides ahead of the end-of-season AFLW National Draft.
Clubs have the option of leaving list spots available after the 2025 AFLW National Draft, as well as opening further list spots throughout the first half of the season. This could occur should they have a player suffer a long-term injury, fall pregnant or prematurely retire from the game before the end of their contract who is then made inactive for the 2026 season.
