AFLNT are excited to announce the captains of the Men’s and Women’s NTFL Representative match against Essendon VFL on the 24th of January.
Former Fremantle draftee and current Nightcliff captain Ryan Nyhuis will lead the Men’s and Adelaide draftee Jasmyn Hewett from PINT will be in charge of the Women’s side.
For Nyhuis, this will be his third appearance in the historic Ochre colours whilst Hewett will be performing in her second game in the representative side.
Nyhuis started his junior career at Nightcliff, where he is playing today, with 123 games during his time in the yellow and black before a stint for the Peel Thunder in WAFL featuring in 49 games. Recruited at pick no. 34 in the 2016 Rookie Draft, Nyhuis played 17 games with Fremantle spanning from 2016 to 2019.
During his time at Fremantle, her earnt an AFL Rising Star nomination for Round 20 of the 2017 AFL Season.
He has also represented the Northern Territory on 13 occasions in the NEAFL for the NT Thunder.
Jasmyn Hewett started her NTFL journey at St Mary’s playing kicking 32 goals in just 16 games before moving across to PINT. Her time at PINT has been successful with 40 games, 52 goals and named in the best players 19 times throughout. Her performances earned her an opportunity to play for Sturt in the SANFL.
In the 2020/21 TIO NTFL Season, Hewett received the Gwynee Medal for her incredible season involving 25 goals across 17 games with nine of those games as best player.
Hewett then extended her career joining the Adelaide Crows at pick no. 16 in the 2017 AFL Women’s draft. She went on to play seven games between 2018 and 2019 before signing with the Gold Coast Suns playing six games before moving back to Adelaide for Season 6 and Season 7 of the AFLW.
Hewett also appeared for the NT Thunder 17 times in the 2018 and 2019 Swisse Wellness VFL Women’s competition.
