The 2024 SunCable Big Rivers Football League (BRFL) Finals Series has kicked off with a flurry of excitement, beginning to reveal the likely premiership contenders as the first teams have already secured a spot in the Grand Final.

On Saturday, the Arnhem Crows showcased their superiority with a commanding victory over Eastside, ensuring their place in the Grand Final. Their performance was marked by standout contributions from TIO NTFL (Northern Territory Football League) stars Jenna Singh Lippo and Jonita Kingsley, both of whom scored two goals each and earned a well-deserved weekend off. The Crows' dominance was further highlighted by Tynequa Bush, who kicked three goals, and Lahlisha (Bush) Gordon, who continued her stellar form.

Despite the loss, Eastside had notable performances from captain Kaleishia Ross and vice-captain Lee-Shay Gillett. However, Eastside will now prepare for a high stakes match against the Katherine Camels in a 'win or go home' scenario.

On Sunday, the Katherine Camels demonstrated their prowess with a decisive win over Katherine South, securing their spot in the preliminary final against Eastside. The Camels' approach was marked by relentless direct ball movement, which left Katherine South scrambling to defend. Grace Senior and Tessa Ryan led the scoring with four goals each, while captain Sarah Assmus added three and Sam Layton and Isabelle Philpott contributed two each. This collective effort underscored the Camels' team-oriented performance.

Despite their defeat, Katherine South had commendable performances from captain Madison Hohn and Tiffany Davey, who played significant roles throughout the match.

In the Men's division, the Arnhem Crows advanced to the Preliminary Final with a comfortable 44-point victory, while the Katherine Camels secured their place in the Grand Final.

Cassien Sambono was instrumental for the Crows, kicking two goals and contributing to their convincing win. Traven Shields also scored two goals, and captain Shanton Ladd provided impactful play with a goal and numerous possessions. Peter Lane, a strong contender for the 2024 Doug Kelly Medal, also made a notable contribution.

The Northern Warlpiri Swans, despite a strong season, were eliminated from the finals. Elijah Kelly shone as their standout player, scoring two goals in a valiant effort.

The Katherine Camels, meanwhile, secured their Grand Final spot with a solid performance against Ngukurr. Harry McKimmie played a key role in the victory, with Katherine making the most of their goal-scoring opportunities, converting 13 of 19 shots.

Isaac Poulton was particularly involved, and 2023 Doug Kelly Medallist William Robinson further cemented his status as a frontrunner for this year's accolade.

Ngukurr, while not advancing, can hold their heads high with a solid performance led by captain Kurtley Silver. They remain a formidable team as they head into the preliminary final.
