AFL Northern Territory (AFLNT) is proud to unveil the fixture for the 2025 Big Rivers Football League (BRFL) season, which will officially kick off on Thursday, April 24. Following a successful 2024 Season, the league continues to grow, with three new clubs joining the men’s division in 2025.
Making a return to the footy landscape after previously competing in the Barkly Australian Football League (BAFL) is the Gulf Storm Football Club, representing the Borroloola region. Also joining the BRFL is the Ngaliwurru Lions from Timber Creek, who will make a three-hour journey along the Victoria Highway to compete each week, while the newly formed Katherine River Sporting Club - to be known as the Saints - rounds out the exciting trio of additions.
Round 1 kicks off with Thursday night footy under lights at Katherine Showgrounds, as Eastside takes on Katherine South at 6:00pm, followed by the Saints making their debut against the reigning Men’s premiers, the Katherine Camels, at 7:30pm.
Saturday brings a four-game match up to launch the season in full. The Ngukurr Bulldogs return to the Women’s competition and will face the defending premiers, the Arnhem Crows, at 12:30pm.
Then the Ngaliwurru Lions will begin their BRFL journey against the Arnhem Crows Men’s side at 2:00pm. That will be followed by the Bulldogs taking on the Gurindji Eagles at 4:00pm. To round off the opening round, the Gulf Storm will make their long-awaited debut against the Garrak Bombers.
The 2025 fixture is packed with marquee matchups, including a highly anticipated Women’s Grand Final rematch between the Arnhem Crows and Eastside, set for Round 8 on Saturday, June 14, and again in Round 12 on Sunday, July 13.
In the Men’s division, fans won’t want to miss the Grand Final rematch between the Ngukurr Bulldogs and Katherine Camels, scheduled for Round 10 on Saturday, June 28, before their second clash fixtured for Saturday, August 2.
The Barunga Festival will once again host a highlight of the season, with both the Women’s and Men’s teams from the Arnhem Crows and Katherine Camels going head-to-head on Friday, June 6, at 6:00pm and 7:30pm respectively.
The season will culminate in a three-week finals series, concluding with the Grand Finals on Saturday, September 6. The Women’s decider will kick off at 1:30pm, followed by the Men’s Grand Final at 3:30pm.
