AFL Masters Queensland, the governing body facilitating football competitions in Queensland for players over the age of 35, has signed an affiliation agreement with AFL Queensland, effective in 2025.
This agreement will see all AFL competitions in the state operate under the established AFL Queensland Rules and Procedures, ensuring consistency and alignment across all levels of the game.
With the growth of AFL in Queensland over the last 4 years, the Masters competitions has also seen a boost in the playing ranks with the female competition being one of the fastest growing segments of the game.
Currently, AFL Masters Queensland oversee 30 clubs and deliver a number of competitions across Queensland with a focus on fun, fitness and social connection.
“We’re thrilled to collaborate with AFL Queensland to implement best practices across the board and enhance the quality of the experience for players,” said Sam French, from AFL Masters Queensland.
“This closer alignment will ensure all competitions are safe, inclusive, and accessible, allowing participants to enjoy the game in a welcoming environment.”
Head of AFL Queensland, Trisha Squires, said it was great to closer align and work together with AFL Masters Queensland.
“There’s a way to play our game for anyone aged four to over 55s,” she said.
“This affiliation agreement strengthens our commitment to growing the game for all ages and ensures that everyone can enjoy the benefits of Aussie rules football in a supportive and inclusive environment.”
The AFL is committed to being a game for everyone, and this partnership will help streamline policies and procedures, creating a more seamless and enjoyable experience for all players involved.
