Last week, AFL Queensland launched its first Umpire4Fun training sessions for 2025, with record attendance across South East Queensland. The Come & Try sessions, held at various locations including Brendale, Kedron, Zillmere, Alex Hills, Mount Gravatt, Sherwood, Kawana, Noosa, Maroochydore, and Tweed/Coolangatta, attracted an enthusiastic crowd eager to learn the ins and outs of umpiring.

The sessions were led by experienced AFL Queensland umpires and umpire coaches, providing newcomers with the opportunity to hone their skills and boost their confidence in a supportive, hands-on environment.

What is Umpire4Fun?

Umpire4Fun is AFL Queensland’s grassroots initiative, designed to support and nurture the development of young umpires across community clubs throughout Queensland. Aimed at individuals aged 12 and older, the program invites participants to step onto the field and experience the world of umpiring firsthand.

The program focuses on teaching fundamental umpiring skills while also fostering a deeper understanding of the game, making it an ideal starting point for anyone interested in officiating at the grassroots level.
