AFL Tasmania would like to congratulate Tasmanian field umpire Nick Foot on his selection for Saturday’s AFL Grand Final.

It will be Foot’s first AFL Grand Final and he will become just the third Tasmanian to officiate on Grand Final day, following on from fellow field umpire Scott Jeffrey in 2016 and boundary umpire Mitch Le Fevre in 2017.

After starting his career with the Tasmanian Football Umpires Association in 2001, Foot moved through the ranks in his home state, officiating three straight TSL Grand Finals from 2009-2011 and being named Tasmanian Umpire of the Year in 2011. The following year he made his AFL debut, and he has since made more than 200 appearances at the top level.

Throughout it all Foot has been an outstanding role model for umpires in Tasmania, regularly mentoring the next generation while performing at a high level on the biggest stage. His journey shows what is possible for those in the state that aspire to make it to the AFL and AFLW.

Head of AFL Tasmania, Damian Gill, said: “We are so excited to see Nick rewarded with a first Grand Final – his excellent performance across many seasons and his continued development and dedication has been duly rewarded.

“To be one of just four field umpires selected for the Grand Final is an amazing achievement, he is another Tasmanian high performer making their mark on the national stage.

“Nick is an outstanding example to Tasmanian umpires on what is possible if you are committed to your craft.”
