The 2022/23 Nichols Medal Event presented by Cazalys Palmerston Club hosted at Mindil Beach Casino Resort, was where the new instalment of Territory Footballers etched their names into the history books and claimed the title of best and fairest for the 2022/23 TIO NTFL Season.
Versatile St Mary’s midfielder, Dylan Landt has won the TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League highest honour, the 2022/23 Nichols Medal and Darwin Buffaloes live-wire Molly Althouse has secured back-to-back Women’s Premier League Best and Fairest Medals.
Leading the competition stats with an average of 29 disposals per match, Landt polled 23 votes to take out the esteemed medal, 8 votes ahead of Southern Districts' ruckman Matthew Dennis, 10 votes clear of cross-town rival Dylan Collis from Waratah.
Hailing from the Calder Cannons, the 180cm midfielder who spent some time on the Essendon VFL in 2022 has been with St Mary’s since the 2020/21 season, cementing himself as an integral cog in the green machine.
In the TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League division, in back-to-back years Darwin Buffaloes Molly Althouse was the clear Women’s Premier League Best and Fairest winner, polling votes in every round from round 12 onwards.
The dominant ruck topped the tally, with 28 votes for the season, ahead of Mickayla Ward from Nightcliff Tigers by 11 votes, and 15 votes clear of St Mary’s captain Emily Forshaw.
Polling an additional 8 votes on her total from last season, born and bred Althouse becomes the third person in the history of the Medal win the prestigious medal in back-to-back years.
Both Althouse and Landt were selected as part of the Men’s and Women’s NT representative teams that played in the Cazalys Representative Weekend in January.
It was St Mary’s who has all the premier league goal kicking accolades. With Jackson Calder claiming his second Dennis Dunn Leading Goal Kicking Medal presented by Darwin Family Law with 51 goals to his name for the season. While Kaitlyn Armstrong took home the Women’s Premier League Leading Goal Kicking award for her 50 goals.
Known for his goal kicking pedigree, Peter Politis from Nightcliff Tigers was awarded the Men’s NT News Rising Star. Palmerston Magpies sensation Tatyana Perry won the NT News Rising Star for the Women. At just 17 years old, Perry made her premier league debut in Round 1 and utilised her clean hands and aerial ability to cement her spot in the senior Magpies side.
Buffaloes Captain, Jarrod Stokes was awarded the NT News Player of the Year. Boasting a season average of 20 disposals per match, veteran Stokes’ scored 14 goals and appeared in the bests 4 times this season.
Mark Noonan was awarded the ABC Umpire of the Year. Vice President of the Umpires of Association and an officiating umpire of over 25 years, Noonan celebrated his 300th Premier League match in 2021 and continues to mentor up and coming umpires, while still officiating premier league matches every weekend.
It was Reni Hicks of PINT who was awarded the ABC Player of the Year tonight. The close-checking defender and midfielder appeared in bests on 12 out of 13 appearances this season.
In Men’s Premier League Reserves, Matt Duffy of Southern Districts took home the Mitch Lee Medal with 17 votes and Lewis Stanton, from Waratah, kicked 60 goals this season, crowning him as the Men’s Division 1 Leading Goal Kicker.
Men’s Division 1 Lancaster Medal saw Simon Crowden of Jabiru Bombers win, receiving 16 votes and Aaron Knapman of Banks Bulldogs kicked 30 goals this season and was awarded the Men’s Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker.
Men’s Division 2, saw Thomas Harvey of Southern Districts win, receiving 15 votes and Mathias Liddy of St Mary’s kicked 22 goals this season and was awarded the Men’s Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker.
In Women’s Division 1, Nightcliff’s’ Jaden Croker received the Best and Fairest award with 9 votes and Sarah Singh ofPINT lead the goal kicking with 18 majors this season.
In Women’s Division 2, Sasha Byrnes from Jabiru Bombers received the Best and Fairest award with 14 votes and Madison Ludwig lead the goal kicking with 17 goals this season.
The 2022/23 Towards Zero Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Kathryn Stanislaus of St Mary’s for her dedication as junior coordinator as well as her wide contribution to the Club and wider TIO NTFL competition.
