The 2023/24 Nichols Medal Event presented by Cazalys Palmerston Club hosted at Mindil Beach Casino Resort, was where the new class of Top End footballers forever etched their names into the history books and claimed the title of best and fairest for the 2023/24 TIO NTFL Season. 

Versatile St Mary’s midfielder, Dylan Landt secured back-to-back TIO NTFL Men’s Premier League highest individual honours, the 2023/24 Nichols Medal. Whilst PINT’s live-wire Jasmyn Hewett secured her second TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League Best and Fairest Medal.  

Leading the competition stats with an average of 28.9 disposals per match, Landt polled 23 votes to take out the esteemed medal, 8 votes ahead of Southern Districts midfielder Jed Anderson, 9 votes clear of cross-town rival and two-time Nichols medallist Brodie Filo from the Nightcliff Tigers. 

Landt becomes the 14th back-to-back winner of the Nichols Medal, joining the likes of NTFL Men’s Premier League stars such as Kelvin Maher and Cameron Ilett as current players to have achieved the same fete. 

The 23 votes included 6 best on ground performances, which tied the St Mary’s club record held by Jarred Ilett for most best on grounds in a season. Dylan also finished with 3 best on grounds out of the last possible 5 matches too take home the Nichols Medal by 8 votes.

 In the TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League division, it was AFLW Premiership winning player Jasmyn Hewett from PINT Football Club who took home her second league best and fairest medallion, collecting 24 votes for the season, finishing ahead of teammates Steph Lawrence and Reni Hicks in second and third place also from PINT Football Club.

The skilful ruck has been dominant force for many seasons, being an ultra-consistent performer over her career in the green and gold. Jasmyn finished the season playing 12 matches, polling in 9 of those matches, including 7 best on ground performances. 

Finishing as runner up for the last two seasons, it was sweet redemption for Jayden Magro from Waratah Football Club who claimed his first Men’s Premier League Leading Goal Kicking Medal presented by Darwin Family Law with 63 goals to his name for the season. 

Whilst PINT’s goal sneak Steph Lawrence took home the Women’s Premier League Leading Goal Kicking award for her phenomenal tally of 66 goals during the home and away season. 

Karlson Kantilla from the Tiwi Bombers Football Club was awarded the 2023/24 NT News Men’s Rising Star. Since making his debut in Round 2 Kantilla has made a name for himself due to his high-jumping ability which he utilised to his advantage against bigger opponents throughout the season. Karlson featured in Tiwi’s best players on 7 occasions from his 16 matches.

Awarded the 2023/24 NT News Women’s Rising Star, Marika Carlton from Palmerston Magpies Football Club made her Premier League debut in Round 1 this season after a ground breaking 2022/23 season at junior levels. Carlton’s ability to make quick decisions, break the lines of defenders and take the game on resulted in several goals worthy of a goal of the year nomination. Playing 18 matches at the competition’s highest level, being named in the best players on 9 occasions and kicking 19 goals.  

St Mary’s Captain, Dylan Landt added another medal to the evenings haul, and was named as the NT News Player of the Year. 

Ashlon Gardner was awarded as NTFL Umpire of the Year. During the 2023/24 TIO NTFL Season, Ash umpired an impressive 48 matches across all grades, including 16 in the Men's Premier League, making him a deserving recipient for the Umpire of the Year Award. On the field, Ash consistently delivers outstanding performances, showcasing unparalleled skills and proficiency that set him apart as a standout official. 

Voted on by Premier League coaches across both the Men’s and Women’s Premier League divisions it was Jasmyn Hewett of PINT Football Club who added to her accolades and was awarded the Women’s ABC Women’s Coaches MVP Award alongside Dylan Landt from St Mary’s who received the ABC Men’s Coaches MVP award for his work in the Men’s Premier League competition.

In Men’s Premier League Reserves, Nikoda Brooking of Southern Districts Football Club took home the Mitch Lee Medal with 15 votes and Will Irwin, from Banks Bulldogs Football Club, kicked 51 goals this season, crowning him as the Men’s Division 1 Leading Goal Kicker.  

Men’s Division 1, saw Rodney Nagawalli of Jabiru Bombers receive 12 votes to win the Lancaster Medal, and Mathias Liddy of St Mary’s Football Club kicked 45 goals this season and was awarded the Leading Goal Kicker medal for third consecutive season.

Jaise Coleman of Nightcliff Football Club, secured the Men’s Division 2 Best and Fairest Medal, receiving 19 votes and team mate Brent Crisp kicked 34 goals this season to be awarded the Men’s Division 2 Leading Goal Kicker

 In Women’s Division 1, Banks’ Sophia Kanyilmaz received the Best and Fairest Medal with her 14 votes and Deontae Greenoff of St Mary’s took home the goal kicking with 19 majors this season. 

In Women’s Division 2, Elspeth Varley from Jabiru Bombers was named as the Best and Fairest with 16 votes and Taylah Easton from Palmerston Magpies led the goal kicking with 22 goals for the season. 

The 2023/24 Towards Zero Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Karla Fishley of Waratah Football Club for her contribution to the Club and wider TIO NTFL competition.
