AFL Mackay is excited to announce the extension of its long-term partnership with Southern Cross Austereo (SCA), ensuring the continued success and growth of Australian rules football in the Mackay and Whitsunday region.

The partnership, which has proven to be a driving force behind local footy, now enters an exciting new chapter.

As part of the renewed contract, Triple M will remain the naming rights partner for the AFL Mackay Senior Women’s League, further cementing the station’s ongoing commitment to supporting women’s sports in the region.

Additionally, Hit FM will now be an official sponsor of the Reserves Men’s grade.

Harry Hannaford, AFL Mackay Competition Manager, expressed his excitement about the extended partnership.

"AFL Mackay is thrilled to partner with Triple M (SCA) Mackay and Whitsunday to bring even more excitement to the Australian rules football community in the Mackay region,” he said.

“Their passion for grassroots and community football with their commitment to engaging with fans aligns perfectly with our mission to grow the game in the region."

Courtney Casey, Market Leader for SCA Mackay and Whitsundays, said the partnership with AFL Mackay was something they were very proud of.

“SCA is deeply passionate about Australian rules football and supporting local, which is exactly why we are proud to continue our partnership with AFL Mackay and expand our support across Triple M and Hit Mackay and the Whitsundays,” she said.

“Aussie rules participation has surged in the region, with men, women, and kids of all ages getting involved. It’s the perfect time to deepen our commitment with Triple M now proudly sponsoring the Senior Women’s Competition and Hit backing the Men’s Reserves.

“SCA is committed to championing grassroots AFL and community sports, using our platforms to create even more opportunities for our listeners and the broader community.”

It’s an exciting time for footy in paradise; this year will see the introduction of the Mackay Youth Girls competition, which aims to develop the next generation of senior women’s AFL players and strengthen the grassroots of the sport in the Mackay and Whitsunday areas.

Looking ahead to the 2025 season, AFL Mackay will implement changes to the youth grades, transitioning from even to odd ages (e.g., U12's to U13.5's). This shift is designed to encourage more kids in the area to participate and compete with their friends for their entire youth career, helping to further grow the local talent pool.

The 2025 AFL Mackay senior football season will kick off on March 29th
