MORNINGSIDE (2ND) V COORPAROO (3RD) JACK ESPLEN OVAL 4:45PM
Morningside have only lost one match for the season and may hold an eight-point lead over their rivals, but Coorparoo will be out for revenge following a narrow loss in Round Five. In a low scoring affair at Giffin Park, the Panthers were able to scrape home by four points after establishing an early lead thanks to two goals to Lucy Bellinger while Chelsea Chesterfield kicked the only two majors for the Kings.
Like most teams this season, Coorparoo suffered a big loss to the undefeated Southport in Round Six but since then have bounced back with four consecutive wins. Morningside’s only loss was just last week at Aspley and with the likes of Laura Roy leading the coaches votes, the Panthers will not want two defeats in a row to jeopardise their current second spot on the ladder.
WILSTON GRANGE (5TH) V ASPLEY (6TH) HICKEY PARK 4:45PM
Another vital game for finals aspirants here with both sides coming off valuable wins in Round 10. Wilston Grange gained a four-point advantage over fellow finals contenders University of Queensland (UQ) following last week’s victory, while as previously mentioned Aspley upset Morningside. Therefore, the loser of this match remains vulnerable in the run to the finals.
Speaking of UQ (7th), their task of staying within reach of fifth and sixth will not be easy as they host undefeated SOUTHPORT (1ST). Earlier in the season the Sharks had it all their own way at Fankhauser reserve, but with more games under their belt and a previous victory over the fancied Bond University at the start of June, the Red Lionesses will be looking to push the runaway leaders a bit closer.
In other Round 11 matches, BOND UNIVERSITY (4th) will be keeping a close eye on the Morningside/Coorparoo contest after they host MAROOCHYDORE (9TH) at Bond University Oval at 2pm. If the Kings were to lose, the Bull Sharks with a win would replace them in third place. The leaders including Shannon Nolan, Grace Moodie and Jasmyn Davidson will be pushing hard for this to occur.
While both these teams are at the lower end of the ladder, there will be plenty of promising youth running around when YERONGA SOUTH BRISBANE host MORETON BAY (2pm Leyshon Park). At this point of their careers, nurturing this youth and the experience of playing in these matches will be beneficial in the long run rather than looking at the win/loss column.
