AFL Northern Territory wishes to congratulate Alice Springs product Ricky Mentha, who has been selected as a Category B rookie for the Melbourne Demons as part of the Next Generation Academy (NGA) in the 2024 Telstra AFL Rookie Draft.

Ricky Mentha began his football journey with the Pioneer Football Club in the Central Australian Football League, where his talent quickly caught the eye. He rapidly progressed through the ranks, representing the Northern Territory in the Cazalys Talent Academy before being selected for the Allies team.

His impressive performances earned him a spot in the prestigious Marsh AFL National Academy, where he played a key role in the 2024 AFL Marsh National Championships, helping secure his place in the Under-18 Boys All-Australian team.

As part of the All-Australian squad, Mentha had the opportunity to showcase his skills at the 2024 Telstra AFL State Draft Combine, where his potential as a dynamic small forward was evident. Known for his agility, sharp goal sense, and natural attacking instinct, he emerged as one of the top prospects in his position.

In the Coates Talent League, Mentha made an impact, averaging 12 disposals across 14 matches, further cementing his reputation as a promising player.

Before moving to Gippsland, Mentha played 41 games for Pioneer, where he developed his game further. He then made the move to the Gippsland region, joining the Morwell Football Netball Club in the Gippsland League while also representing Gippsland Power in the Coates Talent League.
