Both Northern Territory teams have touched down in Melbourne ahead of the 2025 Toyota AFL Open - the second instalment of the national event following its successful debut in Queensland last year.
Taking place from Monday, October 27 to Thursday, October 30, the Toyota AFL Open will see each state and territory compete for national titles across the Inclusion and Wheelchair categories. The four-day tournament will be held at La Trobe University Sports Precinct in Bundoora, Victoria, and will feature more than 60 matches showcasing the skill and passion of athletes from across the country.
As the flagship national event for footballers with an intellectual disability and wheelchair players, the Toyota AFL Open highlights the AFL’s ongoing commitment to creating inclusive pathways and ensuring all athletes have the opportunity to experience the thrill of competition on a national stage.
With free entry for fans at the venue, the final two days of the tournament (Wednesday, October 29 and Thursday, October 30) will be streamed live on AFL Play YouTube and Kayo Freebies, giving supporters across Australia the chance to enjoy every moment of the action.
The Northern Territory squads are prepped and ready to compete for that national title with both teams – inclusion and wheelchair – set to take part in a total of 13 matches, including six for the Inclusion team and seven for the Wheelchair team.
“We’re incredibly proud to see both of our NT teams representing the Territory at this year’s Toyota AFL Open,” said William Warren, Programs & Participation Coordinator for AFL Northern Territory.
“The event is a fantastic celebration of diversity, teamwork, and the power of footy to bring people together. We can’t wait to see them showcase their skills on the national stage.”
