There were some brilliant displays of football in the premier leagues around Tasmania over the weekend, with some intriguing results playing out.

SFL Premier League - Glenorchy vs Kingborough

In the south, Glenorchy and Kingborough’s senior men’s and women’s did battle in a double-header at KGV Oval.

The men’s game took place first, and the visiting Kingborough were the better of the two sides early with 2.6 to the Magpies’ 1.4 in the first term.

Glenorchy struck back in the second quarter with four goals to two and took a slender four-point lead into the main interval.

The arm-wrestle between the two teams continued in the second half, however the Pies extended their lead in the third term to ten points at the final change.

Ultimately, Glenorchy prevailed after a gripping final quarter to win 11.13 (79) to 9.13 (67), thus securing a spot in the top four.

Keegan Wylie (one goal, 12 rebound inside-50s, 36 disposals) and Baker Smith (four goals, 10 marks, 17 disposals) were instrumental for the Pies in a vital victory for their finals hopes.

For the Tigers, Kieran Lovell (one goal, 10 marks, 50 disposals) and Tyler Carter (five goals, seven clearances, 19 disposals) stood tall in defeat.

The women’s match took place later in the evening, and Kingborough made early inroads with four goals to one in the opening term.

Glenorchy did not register a score in the second quarter, however they were able to restrict the visitors to 1.7 for the term.

The Pies got on the board in the third quarter with a couple of minor scores, but the Tigers remained in complete control and led by 34 points at three-quarter-time.

In the end, Kingborough finished strongly to win 8.9 (57) to 1.4 (10).

Molly Mitchell (one goal, eight tackles, 25 disposals) and Hailee Baldwin (five marks, six clearances, 25 disposals) were impressive for the Tigers in their win over Glenorchy.

And for the Pies, Rhianna Davis (nine one-percenters, 12 rebound inside-50s, 24 disposals) and Brieanna Barwick (five tackles, 22 disposals) held their ground against Kingborough.

NTFA Premier League - Scottsdale vs Deloraine

In the North East, Scottsdale and Deloraine’s men’s and women’s teams faced off at the former’s home ground.

The women’s game was the first order of business, and Scottsdale made a solid start with an unopposed 2.3 in the first quarter.

Both sides notched 1.1 in the second term, meaning the Magpies held on to their handy 15-point lead at the main break.

The third term was a dominant display from Scottsdale, who kicked four on the trot to go up 39 points at three-quarter-time.

Deloraine pulled the margin back ever so slightly in the final quarter, however the Pies prevailed to win 7.7 (49) to 2.4 (16).

Scottsdale’s Dearne Krushka (seven inside-50s, seven one-percenters, 27 disposals) and Ruby Hall (six marks, eight tackles, 25 disposals) led from the front for the Magpies.

For the Kangaroos, Lauren Stevenson (one goal, five one-percenters, 21 disposals) and Tayla Smith (five clearances, nine tackles, 21 disposals) played with pride for Deloraine.

The men’s match took place soon after, and Deloraine were dominant early with 4.2 to four Scottsdale behinds in the opening quarter.

Despite a poor first quarter, Scottsdale hit back in emphatic fashion, kicking 4.7 to 2.1 in the second quarter to reduce the margin to just three points at half-time.
Having been challenged strongly in the previous quarter, the Roos rose to the occasion in the third term and put 5.3 on the board to lead by 32 points at the last interval.

The final quarter saw  ten goals registered between the two opponents, however with six of them Deloraine cruised to a 17.6 (108) to 8.16 (64) victory over the Pies.

Kye Chilcott (one goal, eight clearances, 35 disposals) and Darcy Huett (six goals, five marks, 18 disposals) were prominent for the Roos in a big win.

Meanwhile, Scottsdale’s Bryton Mullins (seven inside-50s, nine clearances, 25 disposals) and Bradley Wish-Wilson (six marks, seven tackles, 23 disposals) were brave in defeat.

NWFL Premier League - Burnie vs Circular Head

And in the North West, Burnie and Circular Head’s senior men’s and women’s teams skirmished at Dial Park.

The women’s teams played first, and both teams could only manage one behind apiece in the opening quarter.

In the second quarter however, Burnie kicked an unanswered 3.2 to go up 20 points at the half.

An inaccurate third term from the Dockers saw their lead only be furthered by nine points, however Circular Head remained scoreless once again.

In the final quarter, Burnie finished with 3.5 to notch a 7.11 (53) to 0.1 (1) win over the Saints.

Kath Witherden (five clearances, 11 tackles, 18 disposals) and Sommer French (five inside-50s, nine clearances, 18 disposals) were the driving forces behind Burnie’s victory.

For Circular Head, Georgia Brown (five marks, six one-percenters, 23 disposals) and Zeritu Heres (nine clearances, 12 tackles, 17 disposals) stood tall on a tough day.

The men’s game followed soon after, and Burnie got off to a good start on their home deck with 4.4 to the Saints’ 2.2 in the first quarter.

The second term was scarcer for scoring, however the hosts kept a firm hold of the contest and took their lead out to 23 points at the half.

In the third term, the Dockers kicked away with five goals to two and led by 44 at three-quarter-time.

Ultimately Burnie were victorious, running out 13.15 (93) to 6.3 (39) winners over Circular Head.

Logan Elphinstone (one goal, 58 hit-outs, 23 disposals) and Geordie Dowling (four goals, five marks, nine disposals) were superb for the Dockers in the win over Circular Head.

For the Saints, Liam Davies (one goal, eight inside-50s, 34 disposals) and Matt Elliott (three goals, six marks, 18 disposals) gave notable efforts.
