Round 14 of the 2024/25 TIO NTFL season opens with an intriguing match-up between St Marys and Palmerston. The Saints will be riding a high after a commanding 30-point victory over Nightcliff propelled them into second spot on the ladder. Nadia von Bertouch was outstanding yet again for St Marys, as was Caitlin Sargent, while Billie Byers and Ahlee Penry continue to perform at a high standard.
But you cannot sleep on the Magpies, who will embrace this challenge after coming off a bye and a whopping 170-point win over Wanderers a fortnight ago. Palmerston were beaten comfortably the last time these two teams met and will be hoping for a much more competitive outing tomorrow. They enter the match with players like Ella Ward, Aisha Thomas and Hannah Torsney all in strong form.
It was a case of so close, yet so far for the Buffettes last week after losing to the PINT juggernaut by just a solitary point at Cazalys Arena. Remarkably, Darwin still sit tenuously outside the top-five on the TIO NTFL ladder, so a massive, percentage-boosting win tomorrow against the struggling Wanderers is a must.
The Eagles suffered a 145-point loss to the Tiwi Bombers last week but, again, refused to give up trying. Tiffany Parriman, Anneka Piercy and Jizelle Fejo were some of the better players last weekend while Ashlee Wallis was the only goal scorer.
Nightcliff will get an opportunity to redeem last weekend’s 30-point loss to St Marys with a showdown against PINT set for tomorrow night. The Tigers will be disappointed with the loss against the Saints, but will take solace in the performances of Kate Martin, Zimra Hussain and Tshinta Kendall.
The Queenants had a scare against the Darwin Buffettes last week, but ultimately they did what all great teams do – they got the job done. Paige Sheppard, Zhoe Clarke and Stella Ajani all had strong games last weekend, especially when it mattered most during what was a tense final term.
Waratah will hope to build on last week’s big win over Southern Districts by producing a strong showing against the Tiwi Bombers tomorrow night at Gardens Oval. The Warriors celebrated the return of club legend and former AFLW star Ange Foley with a commanding 37-point triumph against the Crocs. Foley starred, while Lily Tastula, Kierra Zerafa and Joline Bouwer also continued their strong form.
However, the Bombers will still enter the contest as favourites and are fresh off a dominant win against the bottom of the ladder Wanderers. Freda Puruntatameri and Maria Rioli were dominant in attack combining for nine goals, while Arthurina Moreen and Jamie-Lee Puautjimi also had strong showings.
