Sarah Will, Vice President of Jabiru Bombers, said “As a personal reflection, I can share that, as an openly proud lesbian, I wasn’t always confident in who I am,” Sarah stated.
“If Pride Matches had existed when I was younger, my journey might have looked very different. Knowing there was support, no judgement, and visibility could have made all the difference.
“This match is our chance to celebrate everyone, honour our LGBTQIA+ players, and thank our allies. It’s a time to remind everyone that our club is a safe space for all, regardless of who you are or who you love.”
Eilish Grundon, Women's Premiership Player at PINT Football Club, “At PINT Football Club, diversity and inclusion are at the core of who we are, both on and off the field. We are proud of our tradition of creating a safe, welcoming space for everyone, regardless of identity or background. As we celebrate this weekend, we reaffirm our commitment to fostering an environment where all players feel free to be themselves, supported, and respected.
"Personally, football has always been more than just a game. Growing up as an openly gay teenager, finding a safe and accepting space wasn’t easy, but my local footy club became that refuge. When I moved to PINT, I found a family who didn’t just accept me but embraced who I am wholeheartedly. This acceptance is what sets PINT apart – here, we all belong.
"Our club is proud of our teams, both men’s and women’s, for living out this ethos every day. Inclusion isn’t just a statement to us; it’s a lived commitment. This weekend, we celebrate every member of our club and the unique contributions they bring.”
Rohan Langworthy, President of Waratah Football Club, said “The Waratah Football Club has a strong and proud history of inclusivity and has long advocated for diversity within both the NTFL and the broader community. We are proud to have a large number of members, both on and off the field, who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community. As we participate in Pride Matches this weekend, we remain committed to fostering a culture of acceptance, respect, and belonging for all.”
As part of this celebration, fans are encouraged to wear rainbow colours and head to the games at TIO Stadium. The Pride Matches will not only showcase the talent of the competition but will also highlight the growing importance of inclusion within the sporting community.
The TIO NTFL is committed to creating an environment where all people, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, feel valued, respected, and supported.
