Sydney Swans defender Dane Rampe will lead the team for the remainder of the 2026 season, having today been named as the stand-in captain for Callum Mills.
Rampe, who previously held the position of Sydney Swans co-captain from 2019-2023, was an extremely popular choice when the playing group was told this morning.
The 36-year-old has played 288 games in the red and white having debuted way back in 2013.
Rampe takes over as stand-in captain after it was confirmed last week that Mills had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament injury.
The decision to elect Rampe was made together by Mills, senior coach Dean Cox and Club leaders.
“Dane has always been an exceptionally tough footballer, and he continues to show remarkable leadership qualities, which we see on a daily basis inside the four walls,” Cox said.
“As devastating as it is to lose Millsy so late in the season, we feel Ramps has the perfect characteristics and experience to lead this team for the rest of this season.
“The boys are thrilled to run out alongside Dane on Friday night.”
Rampe is a product of New South Wales' AFL system, having emerged through the AFL Sydney competition with the UNSW-Eastern Suburbs, ultimately earning selection in the AFL Rookie Draft.
Rampe was also a Phelan Medalist in the AFL Sydney competition, which will once again be awarded to the Best and Fairest player of the Men's Premier Division tonight (Monday, September 14) as the award celebrates its centenary.
