The Singleton AFL Clubhouse extension has hit the mark ahead of the first home game of the 2026 season, scoring a big win for players, fans and the Cook Park precinct.

The newly completed $2.2million expanded facility will support the ongoing growth and sustainability of the Singleton Roosters AFL Club, while enhancing amenities for the more than 22,000 people who use Singleton’s sporting facilities each year.

Funded in partnership between the NSW Government, AFL NSW/ACT and Singleton Council, the project has delivered new player change rooms with shower facilities, additional storage areas, dedicated umpire facilities, a scorers’ box, first-aid room, and new male, female and accessible toilets. Internal renovations to the existing building have also upgraded the kiosk, kitchen and meeting room.

The upgraded clubhouse also strengthens Singleton’s capacity to host regional AFL events and tournaments, supporting the growth of the sport across the Hunter.

The completed clubhouse extension is the latest milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Cook Park sporting precinct, which continues to grow as a premier destination for sport in regional NSW. Recent investments include the opening of the new athletics facility in 2024, as well as upgrades to cricket pitches, long jump infrastructure and netball courts, creating a multi-sport hub that supports participation, performance and major events year-round.

The project was jointly funded through the NSW Government Office of Sport, AFL NSW/ACT and Singleton Council.

New South Wales' Minister for Sport Steve Kamper said the NSW Government recognises the critical role that sports infrastructure plays within a community.

“Sport and active recreation bring people together, creating a sense of belonging and identity that has long term health and wellbeing benefits," said Kamper

“These upgrades have created a space that enables more members of the community to play and enjoy the benefits of Australian Rules Football.”

Head of AFL NSW/ACT Andrew Varasdi said: “The Singleton Roosters AFC has played a pivotal role in the local community for more than 40 years, and these facility upgrades help usher in a new era for the club.

“While the extended clubhouse will equip the club with high-quality and inclusive infrastructure that allows for greater participation, it will also serve as a place for members of the community to come together and connect over a shared love of Australian Football, and sport more widely.

“Facilities like this underpin the ongoing growth of our game across the state, and we thank the NSW Office of Sport and Singleton Council for their support and partnership in this project."

Mayor of Singleton Cr Sue Moore said: “This is a fantastic outcome for the Singleton AFL Club and for everyone who uses the Cook Park sporting precinct.

“These modern, accessible facilities give players, officials, volunteers and spectators the amenities they need, now and into the future. Providing welcoming spaces for women and girls is essential to the continued growth of sport in our community.

“These improvements strengthen Singleton as a regional sporting hub and help create opportunities to host future competitions.

“Cook Park has become a standout sporting precinct for the Hunter and regional New South Wales, with high-quality facilities across athletics, cricket, netball, rugby league and now AFL. Singleton is firmly on the map as a destination for sport, benefiting clubs, our community and the local economy.”
