Christmas has come early for Bounty Boulevard State School, with new goal posts installed at both ends of the primary school’s oval.
The school has also aligned with Narangba Valley State High School, completing a Prep to Grade 12 pathway of Australian rules football at the school. This means Bounty Boulevard State School will now fall under Narangba Valley State High School’s AFL Queensland Schools of Excellence endorsement.
Last week representatives from AFL Queensland, Bounty Boulevard State School and Narangba Valley State High School gathered to celebrate this significant milestone. Players from both schools also took part in the inaugural Bounty Boulevard v Narangba Valley State High School friendly in front of hundreds of delighted students.
Head of AFL Queensland and International Trisha Squires congratulated everyone involved.
“Australian rules football participation is rapidly growing in the Moreton Bay region and we are thrilled that Bounty Boulevard State School students will have the opportunity to play and practice more with these new goal posts installed,” she said.
“It’s a great reward for the students, parents and administrators of both schools for their hard work and passion in growing the game.
“We believe the installation of the goal posts will only encourage more people in the Moreton Bay region to love and connect with our game.”
Deputy Principal Greg McMahon said Bounty Boulevard State School was proud to partner with AFL Queensland to provide more physical, social and personal development opportunities for their students through sport.
“By strengthening our existing AFL footprint within our sport and curriculum programs, we look forward to seeing a boost in participation at both school and community level, with AFL Queensland supporting us all the way,” he said.
“We would like to thank AFL Queensland for assisting us in developing a purpose fit AFL green space for our school, plus all the additional support they provide for our students and staff.
“Partnering with Narangba Valley SHS gives a clear and sustainable involvement in school footy for our students. It also provides proactive and exciting transitions to high schools, while continuing to strengthen our region’s representation in school-based AFL competitions, including the StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup.
“We are very excited about what the future holds for us here at Bounty Boulevard.”
About the AFL Queensland Schools of Excellence:
The AFL Queensland Schools of Excellence is designed to be an aspirational model for schools across Queensland.
An AFL endorsed footy school program focuses on developing students’ Australian rules football skills while promoting physical activity and overall health. It aims to foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and inclusivity, ensuring that all students, regardless of their background or skill level, can participate and benefit. Additionally, the program introduces students to pathway programs like coaching, umpiring and volunteering, providing a clear progression for those interested in pursuing the sport further.
AFL Queensland endorses 13 schools, as official AFLQ Schools of Excellence. Four schools now complete the Prep to Grade 12 pathway, with Bribie Island SHS partnering with catchment school Banksia Beach State School, along with Woodcrest State College and Varsity College who offer Prep to Grade 12 education.
The Schools of Excellence competition begins in Term 1.
