She Can Coach Program
She Can Coach Program
The She Can Coach Program presented by BHP was established to increase the number of women in coaching, improve their capacity, increase the visibility of coaching role models for women, and develop a network of women in coaching across all levels of the game.
The BHP Women’s Coaching Academy sees the best emerging women coaches undertake a 12-month program to expedite their development as coaches. They complete the National AFL Level 3 Coaching Accreditation Course and build their skills across leadership, mental fitness, and communication.
The aim is to encourage and provide aspiring female coaches with an opportunity for formal, informal, and coaching experiences to enhance confidence & learning and develop an understanding of development coaching practices.
Objectives:
At the conclusion of this program, female coaches should have acquired the skills and knowledge to:
- Understand the general principles of athlete development and skill acquisition for the short and long term development of athletes
- Understand the planning and practices within a senior sporting team and how specialist coaching can be implemented
- Interpretation of test data to assess strengths and weaknesses of athletes
- Collect and collate performance analysis data and collect feedback from athletes and coaches to develop an effective skill development plan and athlete profile
- Design and implement specific interventions within the team training program which can provide measurable outcomes and feedback to the athlete and head coach
As only a small number of women are selected for the national program from each state, in 2026, AFLQ will facilitate a coaching mentor program for aspiring female coaches considering participating in the national program in future.
More details are to come to register interest in either the national or ‘She Can Coach’ or AFLQ “Coaching Mentor” opportunities.
