SOUTH AUSTRALIA KICK OFF FAQs

PARTICIPATION

If your club is hosting a competition, they will send out a registration link so that you can get involved.

Have a chat to your club committee to support one being run. If they are unable to support a competition you can complete this form and we will try and match you with another local competition.

Absolutely! The South Australia Kick Off is designed to welcome all individuals aged 14 and over. You can complete this form and we will try and match you with a local competition.

No, you can only participate once at one local competition.

The local competition is only available for SA clubs and residents. We will however, also be running an interstate wildcard during Gather Round where interstate visitors attending Gather Round will have an opportunity to attend a qualifying day for a potential spot in the Preliminary Finals.

You will be contacted by the AFL with further details including dates, locations and times for all finals. Qualifying Finals will be held in March 2026 and the Preliminary and State Finals will be held across the weekend of Gather Round – 11th & 12th April. Please note that all individual competitors are responsible for their own travel for all finals.

You forfeit your spot in the competition, and your spot will be given to another participant.

PROGRESSION FROM LOCAL COMPETITIONS

You will be required to submit your first and second place division winners via an online form.  The form will be made available in January 2026.

The top placed participant, per division, will be invited to participate in a Qualifying Final to occur in March 2026.  They will also be asked to register on Play HQ to support official record keeping of scores throughout the next stages.

A Qualifying Final will be run for each SANFL zone – metro and regional.

For a Qualifying Final to be run, a minimum of two (2) finalists per division must have been nominated via the local competition stage.

In the event of one (1) finalist being nominated, they will automatically progress to the Preliminary Final.

In the event that no finalists are submitted, there will be no progression in that division for that zone to the Preliminary Finals.

The Qualifying Final dates, times and locations will be confirmed in February 2026 and shared with the local competition finalists.

SANFL zones – both Regional and Metro will each host a Qualifying Final (if the conditions outlined above are met).  If a participant is not available to attend their allocated final, they forfeit their spot and an invitation is made to the second placed participant.

The top placed participant per division, per zone, will be invited to attend the Preliminary Final at Gather Round 2026.

Interstate travellers who attend Gather Round 2026 will have the opportunity to contest South Australia Kick Off qualifiers' top score to gain a place in the Preliminary final.  The Interstate Wildcard Kick Off competition will be hosted at Park 12 University Oval from 1-6pm.  Interstate participants can book in their kicking time slot below.

The Preliminary Final is scheduled for Saturday, 11th April 2026 at Sturt Football Club, Unley Oval from 9am.  Clubs, finalists families and friends and spectators are welcome to come and watch the finals.

There are up to twenty (20) spots in each division.

Only the top two overall placed winners from each division will advance to the State Final.

The State Final will be held at Gather Round 2026 on Sunday, 12th April at half time of the Geelong v West Coast match at Norwood Oval.

The two finalists across each division will take 5 shots of goal (prescribed kicking spots) within 2 minutes.  The Finalist with the highest total score will be the overall winner.

Absolutely! Participants in the local kicking competitions don’t need to be registered to your club to participate. In January 2026, we will share where local competitions are occurring, along with your club's details, so that new participants interested in getting involved can contact your club and find out more.

The AFL will provide you with a registration link that you can share with your club participants as well as any new participants that have been in contact with you.  This way you will be able to see how many participants will be in attendance and effectively plan your local competition.
