Tasmanian Representative Series: NTFA vs NWFL

On the Saturday past, representative sides made up from the NTFA and NWFL senior men’s and women’s competitions faced off against one another at UTAS Stadium.

The women’s match took place first, and the North West demonstrated their authority with five goals to none in the first quarter.

The NTFA did concede a score in the second term, however wayward kicking left them unable to substantially reduce the margin they faced.

With a lead of 24 points in hand at the half, the NWFL steadied in the third term and extended their lead to 35 at the final break after kicking the only two goals of the quarter.

In the end, it was a relatively comfortable 7.6 (48) to 2.12 (24) win for the NWFL.

Meg Radford (NTFA) and Jess Whelan (NWFL) were awarded medals at the best player afield for their respective teams.

The men’s game followed soon after, and it was an entertaining first quarter as both teams kicked four goals apiece.

The next quarter was more of an arm-wrestle, however the NTFA held on to their slim quarter-time lead at the main break.

In the third term, the NTFA extended to a handy lead of 13 points at three-quarter-time after kicking 3.6 to 2.1 for the term.

Ultimately, the NTFA outlasted the NWFL and ran out 14.11 (95) to 10.12 (72) winners. Alex Lee (NTFA) and Harry Elmer (NWFL) were deemed best on ground for their sides.

Evie Ward (one goal, 12 inside-50s, 38 disposals) and Priya Bowering (seven inside-50s, seven clearances, 32 disposals) were dominant for Lauderdale in tough conditions.
