The Anzac Day weekend delivered some fantastic contests from all corners of the state of Tasmania.

SFL Premier League - North Hobart vs Lauderdale

At North Hobart Oval, North Hobart and Lauderdale’s men’s and women’s senior sides faced off in an Anzac Day double-header.

The women’s teams faced off first, with the home side stamping their authority early by keeping Lauderdale scoreless in the first term while registering 4.5.

North Hobart kept on in the following quarter, kicking five goals to one and taking a lead of 55 points into half-time.

The second half was more of the same, with the Demons keeping their foot to the floor in terms of scoring.

In the end, it was a resounding 17.15 (117) to 2.2 (14) victory for the hosts.

Angelica Clark (17 clearances, 19 inside-50s, 48 disposals) and Grace White (five goals, 10 marks, 26 disposals) were superb for North Hobart in a big win.

For the Bombers, Lara Sims (eight one-percenters, 10 rebound inside-50s, 19 disposals) and Emma Waller (nine tackles, 17 disposals) held firm in the face of tough opposition.

The men’s sides faced off in the afternoon, with the Bombers in front by a goal at quarter-time following a low-scoring first quarter.

Lauderdale furthered their lead in the second term, kicking four goals to two and going 18 points up at the half.

The third term was a dominant display from the visitors, kicking 7.9 to a lone North Hobart major and all but sealing victory.

The Bombers finished strongly with a seven-goal to two final quarter to win 20.16 (136) to 6.7 (43).

Sam Siggins (seven goals, seven marks, 24 disposals) and Andrew Phillips (19 disposals, 51 hit-outs) made their presence felt, with the latter awarded the Anzac medal as best afield.

Meanwhile, Harrison Mcleod (eight marks, eight rebound inside-50s, 26 disposals) and Tyler McGinniss (one goal, five marks, 25 disposals) were brave in defeat.

NWFL Premier League - Ulverstone vs Penguin

An Anzac Day double-header also took place in the NWFL, as Ulverstone and Penguin’s men’s and women’s teams clashed on the former’s home deck.

The men’s sides engaged first, with the visitors in front early after notching 2.4 to Ulverstone’s 1.1 in the first term.

Both sides exchanged blows in the second quarter, kicking four goals apiece. However, the Two Blues maintained their nine-point lead at half-time.

The shootout resumed in the second half, with nine goals kicked in the third term. The Robins were able to bridge the gap to just three points at the final change.

The final quarter was a worthy conclusion to a great contest, however the hosts ultimately emerged victorious, winning 14.6 (90) to 13.11 (89) in an Anzac Day thriller.

Ulverstone’s Michael Linnane was prominent up forward with six goals for the afternoon, his sixth major ending up as the match-winner for the Robins.

For Penguin, Jack Templeton was excellent with five goals, however he was left to rue a late miss that could have put the Two Blues ahead in the dying stages.

Following the men’s game, the senior women’s teams for both clubs faced off later that evening.

Despite some wayward scoring early, Penguin held an advantage after a low-scoring opening term, in front by 11 points at quarter-time.

The Two Blues kicked away in the second term, kicking 3.4 while keeping the Robins scoreless to lead by 33 points at the main interval.

Penguin went into cruise control after half-time, continuing to further their lead whilst not conceding a goal for the entirety of the match.

In the end, it was a comprehensive 10.15 (75) to 0.3 (3) victory for the visitors.
Penguin’s Libby Haines (three goals, eight marks, 27 disposals) and Shania Saward (two goals, nine marks, 25 disposals) were dominant once again for the Two Blues.

And for the hosts, Mia Aylett (five tackles, seven clearances, 21 disposals) and Debra Bonde (five marks, six tackles, 21 disposals) played with pride in a tough loss.

NTFA Premier League - Scottsdale vs Launceston, South Launceston vs North Launceston

On the Saturday following Anzac Day, round three of the men’s and women’s NTFA Premier Leagues took place.

In the women’s league, Scottsdale and Launceston did battle earlier in the afternoon on Saturday.

Launceston were on top early, kicking two goals to one in a tussle of an opening quarter.

In the second term, Scottsdale reduced the margin to just a point at the half after keeping the Blues goalless for the interval.

Launceston steadied after half-time, holding the Pies scoreless in the third term and kicking away to a 15-point lead at three-quarter-time.

Despite a late charge from Scottsdale, the Blues held on to win 4.4 (28) to 3.2 (20).

Launceston’s Meg Radford (six marks, six tackles, 24 disposals) and Poppi Schoenmaker (eight tackles, 17 disposals) were notable contributors for the victors.

For the vanquished Scottsdale, Hannah Viney (five inside-50s, 15 tackles, 26 disposals) and Alex Hall (five clearances, seven tackles, 20 disposals) stood tall in a nail-biting loss.

In the men’s competition, South Launceston and North Launceston faced off later that afternoon at Youngtown Memorial Oval.

North Launceston got off to a red-hot start against their crosstown rivals, kicking six goals to one in the first term.

The following quarter was more even with regard to scoring, however the Bombers held a hefty 49-point at the main break.

North Launceston continued to assert their dominance over the Dogs in the third quarter, kicking eight goals to one and nearing a lead of triple figures at the final change.

In the last quarter, the Bombers soared to a 23.20 (158) to 8.4 (52) win over South Launceston.

North Launceston’s Brad Cox-Goodyer continued his brilliant start to 2025 with eight goals and 25 disposals against the Bulldogs.

And for the Bulldogs, Olly Woodcock-Davis (11 rebound inside-50s, 13 marks, 35 disposals) was the standout on a tough afternoon for South Launceston.
