The weekend past dished up some superb football across the state, with all premier leagues resuming proceedings.

SFL Premier League - Glenorchy vs Clarence

In the south, Glenorchy and Clarence’s men’s and women’s senior teams renewed hostilities at KGV Oval on Saturday.

The men’s game kicked off in the afternoon, with Clarence kicking 3.3 to the Magpies’ 1.1 in the first quarter.

Both sides traded blows in the second term, kicking four goals apiece. However, the Roos took a handy 16-point lead into the half.

Clarence kicked away in the third term, notching four goals to two for the interval to lead by 29 points at three-quarter-time. 

Despite a solid final quarter from the hosts kicking four goals to the Roos’ 2.2, the latter held on to win 13.14 (92) to 11.6 (72).

Clarence’s Oscar Paprotny (one goal, nine inside-50s, 33 disposals) and Josh Green (five goals, six marks, 17 disposals) were excellent for the Roos in their victory over Glenorchy.

For the Pies, Keegan Wylie (six marks, six rebound inside-50s, 33 disposals) and Baker Smith (four goals, eight marks, 14 disposals) stood tall against their former club. 

The women’s game commenced later in the evening, and Clarence took a ten-point lead into quarter-time after a low-scoring first term, in which Clarence kicked the sole major.

With a slender lead in hand at quarter-time, Clarence announced their authority with an unopposed 5.3 in the second quarter to lead by 43 points at half-time.

The Roos resumed their dominance in the second half, registering five goals to one and all but assuring victory.

In the final quarter, the Roos cruised to a comprehensive 13.15 (93) to 1.2 (8) victory over Glenorchy.

Clarence’s Jacinta Limbrick and Luca Murgatroyd were prominent for the Roos, combining for ten of Clarence’s thirteen majors for the game.

And despite a hefty defeat, Brieanna Barwick (one goal, 11 clearances, 31 disposals) and Stacey Schultz (six inside-50s, eight tackles, 20 disposals) held firm against the Roos.

NTFA Premier League - Scottsdale vs South Launceston, Longford vs Launceston

In the NTFA, the senior women’s teams for Scottsdale and South Launceston did battle on the former’s home deck.

The visiting Bulldogs were on top early, kicking two goals to one in the opening quarter to lead by five points at the first change.

Scoring continued to be in short supply in the following quarter, however the Magpies bridged the gap to two points at half-time.

Scottsdale then took lead in the third term, kicking two goals for the interval while not conceding a major to lead by nine points at three-quarter-time.

Ultimately, the Pies outlasted South Launceston in the final term to win 5.5 (35) to 4.3 (27).

Dearne Krushka (five inside-50s, 10 clearances, 32 disposals) and Georgie Hogarth (one goal, six inside-50s, 20 disposals) were pivotal for Scottsdale in a hard-fought win.

Meanwhile, South Launceston’s Liana Freestone (one goal, 12 tackles, 29 disposals) and Hayley Breward (one goal, 12 tackles, 25 disposals) battled hard for the Bulldogs.

Later in the day, Longford and Launceston’s men’s sides faced off at Longford’s home ground.

The first quarter was an entertaining affair, with Launceston registering 4.2 to the Tigers’ 3.5 to go up by three points at the first break.

However, Longford gained control in the second term, kicking four goals to Launceston’s two for the quarter to lead by 12 points at the half.

The Blues hit back after half-time with 5.4 in the third quarter to Longford’s 1.3, retaking the lead and putting a buffer of 13 points between themselves and the Tigers at the last change.

Both sides were wayward in front of goal in the last quarter, however Launceston held on to win 11.13 (79) to 9.17 (71).

Jake Hinds (two goals, eight clearances, 36 disposals) and Ben Hyatt (one goal, five tackles, 26 disposals) led the way for Launceston in a nail-biting victory over the Tigers.

As for Longford, Charlie Taylor (five marks, seven clearances, 26 disposals) and Jake Murfett (five inside-50s, six marks, 23 disposals) were brave in defeat.

NWFL Premier League - Devonport vs Wynyard

And in the North West, a double-header between Devonport and Wynyard’s senior men’s and women’s teams took place at Devonport Oval on Saturday evening.

The women’s game took place first, and Wynyard started strongly with three goals to a lone point from the Pies in the first term.

The Cats did not concede a score in the second quarter, however they were only able to add eight points to their quarter-time lead

Neither side notched a major in the third term, however Wynyard maintained a firm grip on the contest.

Ultimately, the Cats were too good for Devonport, winning 5.4 (34) to 1.4 (10).

Olivia Smith (seven tackles, 10 clearances, 28 disposals) and Charli Davis (three goals) were key contributors in Wynyard’s victory.

And for Devonport, Sarah Skinner (five tackles, 10 clearances, 25 disposals) and Aspen Auton (six tackles, eight clearances, 17 disposals) played with pride for the hosts.

The men’s teams for both clubs did battle later in the evening, with Devonport kicking 3.4 to two Wynyard majors in the first term.

The Magpies kicked away in the following interval with 4.7 to another two goals from the Cats, ensuring a lead of 29 points at half-time for the home side.

With a notable lead in hand, Devonport kept on in like manner in the second half as the first, registering 3.6 in the third term and only conceding a lone Wynyard goal throughout.

In the end and despite their inaccuracy, the Pies cruised to a 12.22 (94) to 6.0 (36) victory over the Cats.
