NTFA Premier League - Deloraine vs Launceston, Longford vs South Launceston
In the NTFA, Deloraine and Launceston’s senior women’s teams faced off at the former’s home ground.
Goals were a scarcity throughout this match, with just three majors registered between the two sides over the duration of the first three quarters.
Momentum seesawed between the two opponents, however the low-scoring nature of the match made even miniscule leads worth their weight in gold.
Heading into the final term, Deloraine had kicked two of the game’s three goals and were in front by three points at the last change.
However, the only scores registered in the last quarter were three Launceston behinds, ultimately spelling out a 2.2 (14) to 1.8 (14) draw at the final siren.
Deloraine’s Lauren Stevenson (seven marks, seven rebound inside-50s, 36 disposals) and Karina Baxter (five marks, nine one-percenters, 23 disposals) stood tall for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Launceston’s Grace Le Fevre (five clearances, eight tackles, 27 disposals) and Poppi Schoenmaker (six marks, 14 tackles, 25 disposals) were influential in a tussle.
Later in the afternoon, Longford and South Launceston’s senior men’s teams did battle on Longford’s home deck.
Both sides squandered opportunities early, with Longford kicking 1.3 to six Bulldogs behinds in the opening quarter.
Despite a slight deficit, South Launceston dominated the second term, kicking four goals to two and snaring a lead of 12 points at half-time.
The Dogs remained in control in the second half, and with another four-goal to two quarter they led by a healthy 27 points at three-quarter-time.
Longford made a late charge in the final quarter, however South Launceston held on to win 9.17 (71) to 9.10 (64).
Tom Graham (seven clearances, nine marks, 33 disposals) and Hunter Farrelly (four goals, seven inside-50s, 21 disposals) were vital contributors in the Bulldogs’ victory over Longford.
For the Tigers, Deagan Madden (two goals, 17 clearances, 35 disposals) and Casey Brown (ten inside-50s, 12 clearances, 30 disposals) were brave in a nail-biting loss.
