NWFL Premier League - Burnie vs Wynyard

On Saturday afternoon, Burnie and Wynyard’s men’s and women’s teams faced off in a double-header at West Park.

The women’s sides played first, and Wynyard made a strong start kicking 2.6 in the opening quarter while not conceding a score.

The Cats kicked away in the second term, extending their lead to 34 at the half. Meanwhile,  Burnie were still unable to register a score.

A clinical five-goal third term from the visitors saw their lead go in excess of ten goals at three-quarter-time.

Ultimately, it was a comprehensive 12.13 (85) to 0.0 (0) win for Wynyard over the Dockers.

Charli Davis (seven goals, 17 disposals) and Piper Humphries (five marks, 11 inside-50s, 27 disposals) were excellent for the Cats.

And for the home side, Kirby Brakey (11 clearances, 15 one-percenters, 22 disposals) and Kath Witherden (eight one-percenters, 13 tackles, 11 disposals) were brave in defeat.

The men’s game followed directly after, and at the end of a tightly contested first term the Cats led by a goal at the first change.

Burnie return served in the second quarter, notching four goals to two for the interval to go up by a goal themselves at the half.

The third term was akin to the first term, with scoring in short supply. However, the Dockers held on to a lead of five points at the final break.

In the end, Burnie outlasted Wynyard in the fourth quarter to win 9.8 (62) to 6.11 (47).
