Orange Wristband Initiative

The Orange Wristband Initiative, operating in selected states, identifies umpires under 18 and helps create a safer, more supportive match-day environment. It provides a simple visual reminder to players, coaches, officials and spectators that the umpire is a young person. It encourages everyone involved in the game to show patience, respect and support as young umpires learn, develop and enjoy being part of football.

Importantly, it is not a measure of competency, ability or experience. An umpire wearing an orange wristband may be new to umpiring or may already have significant experience. It’s there to help young umpires feel safe and supported while officiating our game.
