As part of Big Freeze 11 Community Round this week, Diamond Creek Junior Football Club will proudly host its 3rd Annual Fight MND Charity Match — a high-energy night where sport takes a backseat to something much bigger: raising funds to fight Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
After raising over $28,000 in 2024, the Diamond Creek is turning up the volume with new features, returning legends, and a night packed with unforgettable moments. 2024's numbers were a huge leap from their $7,500 total just a year earlier, with the club hoping to break the record again this year. Every dollar raised goes directly to FightMND ’s mission to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for motor neurone disease (MND).
“The Diamond Creek Junior Football Club DIY Big Freeze has become the most anticipated event on our calendar,” Cairenn (Caz) O’Donoghue told FightMND.
Caz is the powerhouse organiser behind the club’s Big Freeze efforts. “It’s more than a game. It’s a night of remembrance, hope and action,” she told FightMND.
Leading this year’s squads are:
Team Managers: Terry Daniher & Ray Shaw
Head Coaches: North Melbourne VFL players Darcy and Ewan MacPherson
Assistant Coaches: Carlton VFL’s Taj Logan & Liam Farrar
Special Guest Players: Andrew Tranquilli & Danny Roach
A mix of former AFL talent and community favourites will take to the field under lights, cheered on by a crowd that knows this game means more than four quarters.
A new addition for this year's event will be the Fight MND Ice Slide, to bring all the chills and thrills. Brave locals, players, and club personalities will take the plunge in icy waters, all for a good cause.
If you’re in the Diamond Creek area, don’t miss this special event. Head down to Coventry Oval on Friday 30 May, with the game kicking off at 7PM. Bring your mates, don your Beanies and help fight the Beast.
