HOW TO CHOOSE A MENTAL PROGRAM
To help clubs choose a safe and effective mental health program, the AFL and Orygen have produced a guide to help chose a safe and effective program. The guide:
- Uses a star rating system so you can quickly identify the level of evidence for each program.
- Awards three gold stars to recommended programs.
- Summarises each program.
Good Sports
The Good Sports program strengthens club policies and practices around alcohol consumption, sales and management, tobacco and vaping, illicit drug use, safe transport, safer celebrations and mental health support.
The Alcohol and Drug Foundation’s (ADF) flagship program is Australia’s largest community health sports program. It has been helping build strong community sporting clubs across Australia for more than 25 years. Funded by the Australian Government, it operates in over 12,000 community sporting clubs across Australia, including more than 1,600 football clubs.
Tackle Your Feelings
Tackle Your Feelings (TYF) is a free mental health training program for senior community football players, coaches, volunteers and umpires.
TYF is delivered by a local psychologist and in the foundations workshop participants learn to understand, recognise and respond to signs of mental ill-health. TYF also offers workshops on understanding anxiety and thriving techniques.
