Indigenous

To achieve our vision, we aspire to continue to showcase the contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within Australian Rules Football and to connect with Indigenous communities across Australia.

AFL COMMUNITY CONNECT

AFL Community Connect is more than just footy - it’s about building a sense of belonging and connection. These locally led programs are co-designed with families, community organisations, and councils to ensure every session is meaningful, culturally safe and welcoming.

Through AFL Community Connect, children and families from all backgrounds can have a go, make new friends, and feel at home - whether trying footy for the first time or coming back with mates.

PLACE-BASED APPROACH

Programs will be delivered via a place-based approach to help address issues and take advantage of opportunities within a specific geographic area through a spirit of collaboration and capacity building to drive sustainable, community-led change by:

  1. Engaging community members and local organisations.
  2. Utilising local knowledge in the process of co-design.
  3. Tailoring solutions to the unique needs and context of the place.
  4. Adopting a shared decision making and stewardship approach.
