Week 2 of the 2024/25 TIO NTFL Men’s and Women’s Premier League Finals Series has been scheduled.
To remain in the race for 2024/25 TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League Premiership, the Nightcliff Tigers will clash with the Palmerston Magpies on Saturday 1 March at 12:15pm at TIO Stadium.
Nightcliff has had a season worthy of a premiership, but setbacks against PINT and St Mary’s have left them needing a win to keep their elusive chase for their first Women’s Premier League title alive. Mickayla Ward has been the backbone of the Tigers' forward line, while Hannah Turnbull has been relentless in her work rate. Gold Coast import Sally Evans has brought crucial run and carry, setting up several key scoring opportunities.
Palmerston has quietly emerged as a formidable force in the 2024/25 TIO NTFL season, flying under the radar ahead of their clash with the Tiwi Bombers on Saturday. Despite being considered underdogs, they sent a clear message to the league with a dominant 43-point victory. Tatyana Perry further solidified her reputation as a top talent, while Kate Grady put on a performance that cemented her status as one of the competition's premier defenders.
Minor Premiers, the PINT Queen-Ants will feature in their first match in the 2024/25 TIO NTFL Finals Series who will take on St Mary’s on Saturday 1 March at 2:15pm at TIO Stadium.
PINT, under the guidance of newly appointed NTFL Women’s representative coach Jasmyn Hewett, has been a dominant force this season, sitting a game clear at the top of the ladder. The addition of Reni Hicks to the midfield has further strengthened their lineup, while defences will need to be on high alert against the potent forward duo of Casey Morris and Steph Lawrence, who have already combined for an impressive 39 goals this season.
St Mary’s must overcome their past fears as they face a 2023/24 TIO NTFL Women’s Premier League Grand Final rematch for a spot in the 2024/25 TIO NTFL Grand Final. Grace Senior played a dominant role against Nightcliff, while Nakeesha Miniter emerged as a serious on-field threat. Billie Byers has found her form at the perfect moment, consistently giving her teammates first use of the ball in highly contested situations.
To keep their premiership chances alive, the Tiwi Bombers will do battle with St Mary’s at 4:15pm at TIO Stadium on Saturday March 1.
The Bombers' finals campaign got off to a tough start, as the heavy rain disrupted their typically fast, flowing playstyle. Despite the defeat, Braedon McLean stood out as the calming presence Tiwi needed, while Nathaniel Cooper displayed plenty of daring play. Scott Bedford and Sam Darley showed remarkable courage, relentlessly throwing themselves into every ground ball contest.
St Mary’s delivered a masterclass against Waratah on Saturday afternoon. Former West Coast Eagles player Connor West and Dylan Landt were unstoppable, controlling the clearances and each bagging two goals. However, it was Jack Landt, the other half of the Landt brothers, who stole the spotlight as the key target up forward, finishing with five goals that had the Waratah defence in disarray.
Southern Districts Crocs will begin their premiership run taking on the Nightcliff Tigers on Saturday, March 1 at 6:45pm at TIO Stadium.
Jed Anderson, undeniably one of the standout players of the season, is determined to lead his team to the premiership. Alongside him, dangerous teammates like fellow former AFL player Steven Motlop and key forward Will Farrer make the Tigers a formidable force. Opposing teams will be doing everything in their power to limit the impact of these game-changers.
Fresh off a commanding performance in a wet and wild Qualifying final against the Tiwi Bombers, the Tigers will be brimming with confidence. Lachlan Tardew, a ball magnet on Friday night, is set to be a major threat to the Crocs' midfield. With Fergus Greene and Stanley Cox combining for nine goals and the impenetrable defence of Ryan Nyhuis, this match-up is sure to be a thrilling spectacle.
All other divisions will have their fixtures uploaded to the PlayHQ Website after the completion of Finals Week One.
