The Katherine Camels have claimed their second win of the season in the women’s division, edging out Katherine South in a gritty five-point contest.
In a clash touted as one of the round’s best, both sides brought intensity from the first bounce. Scoring proved hard to come by in a low-scoring affair, as defensive pressure dominated the play. The Camels managed to convert just enough, registering 1.6 (12) to Katherine South’s 1.1 (7), with repeated forward entries making the difference.
Devita Hodgson, Tara McFadyen, and Alex Antonio were instrumental for the Camels, while Madison Hohn stood out for the Crocs with a tireless performance.
Arnhem Crows delivered a strong performance to defeat the Ngukurr Bulldogs, setting the tone early and holding a seven-goal advantage at halftime.
Ngukurr fought back in the second half, adding three goals and tightening defensively, but the damage was already done. Lynelle Ahfat starred once again for Arnhem, booting six goals in a dominant display, with strong midfield support from Jonita Kingsley, Moniquah Ulamari, and Trephina Bush.
Despite the loss, Ngukurr’s Brianna Wilfred and Janita Robertson battled bravely.
The Garrak Bombers have stormed into second on the ladder in the men’s division after a composed second-half performance secured a 21-point victory over a spirited Gurindji side.
The match was tightly contested early, with the Eagles buoyed by their win last week. But Garrak found their rhythm after halftime, capitalising on key moments. Warrick Campbell was named best on ground with three goals, while Jitendra Pluto, Roddy Jimmy, and Tyrese Raymond (two goals) all impressed. Joseph Cadell also slotted two majors.
Gurindji were led admirably by Sonny Smiler Jnr, but couldn’t maintain their momentum.
The Katherine Camels emphatically returned to form, outgunning the Arnhem Crows in a high-scoring contest to record an 18-point win.
A fast start saw the Camels kick three unanswered goals before piling on four more in the second quarter to take a 29-point halftime lead. The Crows responded in the third, narrowing the gap to 21 points. A thrilling final term saw nine goals kicked between the sides, but the Camels held on.
Lachlan Wareham, Wade Rosas, and Leigh Ware were standouts, while Tristan Warner and Shane Gartside each kicked three goals in a strong forward display. The Crows were kept in the hunt by Shanton Ladd, Kiefin Mardi, and a three-goal effort from Henry White.
The Northern Warlpiri Swans have kept their finals hopes alive with a commanding performance over the Ngaliwurru Lions, slotting an incredible 29 goals in a one-sided affair.
The Swans’ dominance sees them claim their third win of the season, now sitting just two games outside the top four. While the Lions struggled to keep pace, they showed fight throughout, applying consistent physical pressure and refusing to give up.
They’ll now look to rebound against the Crows next weekend.
The Katherine River Saints edged out Borroloola in a tight contest, notching their third win from four games and continuing their late season push for the finals.
Momentum swung back and forth all game, with both sides locked in a low-scoring, high-pressure battle. The Saints held their nerve in a tense final quarter to seal a crucial win, with six rounds remaining.
Brock Nathan Bliss led from the front in key moments, supported by strong outings from Andy Bennett and Arnold Croker. Troy Gillett reinforced his status as one of the league’s top forwards with another three-goal haul.
Borroloola will rue missed chances but can take confidence from the efforts of Cody Miller and Troydean Rory heading into next week’s clash with the Bombers.
