Round 5 of the 2026 TIO Central Australian Football League delivered another dominant showing from West, who maintained their strong early-season form with a comprehensive performance in the senior women’s division.
West were sharp from the opening siren, quickly asserting control and extending their quarter-time advantage by halftime. From there, they pulled away in the second half, with their forward pressure and ball movement proving too much to contain.
Iesha Ronberg led the charge up forward with a four-goal haul, while West’s scoring spread underlined their depth, with goals coming from across the ground. Gigi Dadds and Brooke Wilson continued their strong starts to the season, while Renae James and Liana Fraser added two goals apiece in a well-rounded attacking display.
Pioneer will be looking to build towards causing an upset against Federal this weekend with likes of Danika McDonald to lead the charge.
Souths cemented second place on the ladder with a commanding win over 2025 senior women’s grand finalists Federal.
The opening term was tightly contested, with Federal restricting Souths to just three goals. However, Souths gradually took control, edging the second quarter three goals to one to open up a 31-point lead at the main break.
From there, it was one-way traffic. Souths produced a dominant second half, kicking nine unanswered goals to seal a statement victory and move into top spot on the ladder.
Ebony Abbott-McCormack, Betty Maeke and Christa Lingen were among Souths’ best, controlling possession and driving the ball with composure, while Kate Fessey and Georgia Calub were among Federal’s better contributors in a challenging outing.
In the men’s division, Pioneer moved to the top of the ladder after holding off a fast-finishing West side in an entertaining contest.
Both teams came out firing, combining for six first-quarter goals, with Pioneer taking a 12-point lead into quarter time. The Eagles then gained control in the second term, kicking four goals to two to build pressure on West and extend their buffer to 33 points by the final break.
West responded late, finishing strongly with four goals to one in the final quarter, but Pioneer held firm to secure a 16-point victory.
Thomas Swan was influential throughout with two goals and a strong midfield performance, supported by Matt Campbell and Waylon Mason, who both had a significant impact on the result.
For West, Cody Marriott stood out with a brilliant five-goal performance in a best-on-ground display.
In the final match of the round, Federal responded strongly in the men’s competition with a commanding performance against Souths.
Federal set the tone early, generating 13 scoring shots in the opening term to establish a 41-point lead at quarter time. Souths fought back in the second quarter, adding two goals but were left to rue missed opportunities in front of goal.
From halftime onward, Federal took complete control. Their relentless forward pressure produced 11 goals in the second half, turning the match into a dominant attacking display.
Caleb Schwartz was outstanding, while Braydon Weily, Frederick Wheeler and Norman Wheeler each finished with four goals in a comprehensive team performance.
South will be hoping they can recapture their form from Round 3, as they will clash with Rovers this Saturday.
