Southern Football League star Brieanna Barwick has been named the MVP of the 2024 Women’s Statewide All-Stars Series, taking out the top individual honour after dominating across her side’s two games.
The SFL fell just short in both contests, but Barwick’s class shone through as she made a huge impact through the midfield and in attack. She had 22 disposals, six clearances and two goals against the North West Football League, and backed that up two days later with 33 disposals, 23 contested possessions, seven tackles and 10 clearances against the Northern Tasmanian Football Association.
Barwick won the MVP award with 11 out of a maximum possible 12 votes, beating out SFL teammate Angelica Clark and the NTFA’s Alice Robinson with nine votes apiece. NTFA captain Kelsie Hill (seven votes) and NWFL skipper Olivia Smith (five votes) rounded out the top five.
Coaches from both sides awarded votes after each game, with a 3-2-1 given by each to both teams.
Barwick, who is also the playing coach of Glenorchy’s women’s side, has long been a star of Tasmanian football. She was named vice-captain of the Women’s Statewide All-Stars Team of the Series in 2021, captained the Magpies to SFLW and statewide premierships in that same year, and took home the club’s best and fairest in 2019.
The Women’s Statewide All-Stars Series has been contested annually since 2021, bringing together the best players from across the state in a battle for regional supremacy. The NWFL claimed the 2024 title, their third in four years, after a pair of thrilling wins over the past fortnight.
