AFL Queensland has confirmed the coaching panels for the Queensland Men's and Women's State Teams, who will take on Tasmania in Latrobe on July 5th.
Following the recent appointments of Steve Daniels and Jamie Stanton as Head Coaches of their respective teams, a combination of familiar faces and fresh talent have been added to the assistant coaching ranks.
Tammie Lauritsen returns as an assistant coach in the women’s program, continuing her role under Stanton from the 2024 campaign. Joining her are two new additions: Luke Glacken, Head Coach of Aspley’s QAFLW side, and Ben Long, Head Coach of Sandgate’s QFAW program.
Glacken brings a wealth of experience to the role. A former midfield coach at the University of Queensland, he was instrumental in the team’s back-to-back QAFLW premierships (2021 and 2022). Since taking over at Aspley in 2023, Glacken led the Hornets to a Grand Final in his first year and a Preliminary Final appearance in 2024—the club’s first finals campaigns in QAFLW history.
Long has overseen Sandgate’s rise through the ranks, having guided the team from QFAW Division 2 into Division 1 in 2022. Under his leadership, Sandgate reached the finals in their first Division 1 season and made it all the way to the 2024 Grand Final. Long also brings state-level experience, having coached in the South Queensland women’s program alongside Stanton and Lauritsen in 2022 and 2023.
Jarrod Keogh returns for his third year with the Queensland Men's State Team. The Redland Victoria Point assistant coach is the only returning member from the 2024 campaign, providing valuable continuity.
Joining the panel is Adrian Pilgrim, Head Coach of Aspley’s QAFL side. Pilgrim returns to the state coaching lineup after previously serving as an assistant in 2023. With extensive experience in state league football across both Queensland and Victoria, his return is a welcome boost to the coaching group.
Brett McEvoy, current Senior Coach of Sherwood’s QAFL team, will also join the men's program. As a lifelong Magpie, McEvoy began his football journey at Sherwood in the under 8s which kickstarted a long playing and coaching history at the club, culminating in his senior appointment last season. Known for his sharp football acumen, he also brings experience from coaching various representative and underage teams.
The Queensland Men's and Women's State Teams will face Tasmania at Latrobe on July 5th.
