As community footy finals across the state come to a close over next week, Victoria's Container Deposit Scheme (CDS Vic) is encouraging all clubs to embrace the opportunity to raise funds and recycle drink containers at end of season functions and match days.

CDS Vic have some practical types on how to make the most out of the next two weekends.

  1. Recruit volunteers
Advertise for volunteers to help out on match days to carry portable bins around the venue, collect any discarded drink containers at the event or educate patrons on how to correctly dispose their drink containers.

2. Place your bins
To maximise your returns and minimise contamination, we recommend placing container deposit scheme bins by canteens, exits, existing rubbish bins, and other high-traffic areas. Make sure they’re clearly labelled and monitor them throughout the day to empty as required. Bin stickers are available for download here.

3. Storage
Think about where you will store your collected containers before you’re able to take them to a refund point. It’s best to keep them locked overnight for security.

4. Signage
As well as stickers on your bins, we recommend placing posters around your club letting people know you’re collecting containers. Posters reminding your members of what’s eligible for the scheme are useful too. Both are available for download here.

5. Contact your local depot
Depots are larger refund points, and better equipped for big volumes. Get in touch with your nearest one ahead of time, and they may be able to assist you in your planning. Some even offer commercial collection services. Find your nearest depot on the CDS Vic location map.

6. Let people know
Post on social media before the big day letting people know your plans. CDS Vic have footy-specific videos here for you to download.

Recycle like a champion! We’re so excited to host the [region] finals this month. We’ll be
fundraising with @cdsvic, so make sure you put the right thing in the right bin. Remember, every
eligible container is worth 10 cents, and the funds we raise together will go straight back into
your club. For more information, visit cdsvic.org.au.
