AFL Queensland has confirmed two key competitive balance measures for the Bond University QAFLW, which will take effect from the 2025 season.
These include the QAFLW adopting AFL Queensland’s Total Player Payments Policy (TPPP) and introducing a Player Points System Policy (PPSP).
The TPPP will see a Total Player Payments Cap set at $25,000 for total player payments in the 2025 season.
Mitchell Simpson, Competitions Manger – Queensland, said AFL Queensland were committed to providing a competitive and sustainable playing field to continue supporting the explosive growth of female talent in Queensland.
“As the landscape of women’s competitions has evolved, player payments in the QAFLW have also adapted,” he said.
“We want to support the equalisation and sustainability of the competition for years to come.
“The Bond University QAFLW is one of the premier women’s state leagues in the country, and the professionalism shown by clubs has grown year on year, creating a fantastic showcase of women’s talent."
The PPSP is designed to enhance competition balance by promoting club development programs and supporting player loyalty.
It aims to maintain the integrity of the QAFLW within the Southeast Queensland football ecosystem and help clubs establish competitive playing lists while nurturing Queensland’s aspiring talent.
“This type of policy isn’t new to Queensland football,” said Simpson.
“We’ve had a Player Points System in place for the QAFL since 2018, and after feedback from clubs, we believe the time is right to introduce it into the QAFLW.
“QAFLW clubs played an essential role in shaping the implementation of both policies, and AFL Queensland thanks all clubs for their ongoing support of the competition.”
