This past weekend, the premier leagues around the state of Tasmania wrapped for 2025 with a string of grand finals being played in the South, North and North West.
SFL Premier League - Kingborough vs Clarence, Lauderdale vs Clarence
At North Hobart Oval, Kingborough and Clarence’s senior women’s teams resumed hostilities with a flag on the line.
Kingborough made a solid start against the Roos, kicking the only two majors of the opening quarter and leading by 11 points at the first change.
Clarence recovered some ground in the second term and cut the margin back to single figures after holding the Tigers goalless.
In the third quarter, the Roos continued to chip away at Kingborough, registering a further two goals to take the lead with six and a half minutes remaining in the term.
However, a goal from Maci Lancaster in the final minute saw the Tigers retake the lead before three-quarter-time.
From then on it was all Kingborough, who piled on five goals in the final quarter to win 8.8 (56) to 3.8 (26) and clinch the premiership.
Following directly afterwards was the men’s grand final between Lauderdale and Clarence.
Clarence were red-hot early, notching four goals to one in the first quarter.
The Roos remained in control in the second term, kicking another four goals to cement their lead even further. At half-time, Clarence led by 31 points.
Scoring dried in the third term, with just one goal registered between the two sides in the quarter. With that one major, the Roos extended their lead to 35 at the final break.
In the final quarter, Clarence finished strongly to win 13.10 (88) to 6.13 (49) and secure the flag.
NTFA Premier League - South Launceston vs Launceston, North Launceston vs Launceston
In the north, South Launceston and Launceston’s senior women’s teams faced off at UTAS Stadium.
The opening term was highly contested, with scoring a rare sight. Launceston however notched a major and led by five points at the first break.
The Blues held on to their slender lead throughout the second quarter and went into the main interval 10 points up.
South Launceston struck back in the third term, putting a couple of goals on the board and reducing Launceston’s lead to just four points at three-quarter-time.
Despite some defiance from the Dogs, Launceston were too good in the end, outlasting their crosstown rival in the final quarter to win 4.6 (30) to 2.6 (18).
Jorja Haberle (two goals, five one-percenters, 25 disposals) and Meg Sinclair (five marks, 23 disposals) were excellent for the Blues in their premiership win.

In the men’s competition, North Launceston and Launceston battled for the premiership. North Launceston started well, kicking 3.4 to the Blues’ 2.2 in the first quarter.
The Bombers kicked away in the second term, registering three majors on the trot to lead by 27 points at half-time.

NWFL Premier League - Wynyard vs Penguin, Devonport vs Wynyard
And in the North West, Wynyard and Penguin’s senior women’s teams did battle at Latrobe on Saturday morning.

In the second quarter, both teams notched a goal apiece, with the Two Blues holding on to a lead of five points at the half.
After the main change, the Cats took control, kicking three goals in the third term while keeping Penguin goalless to lead by 14 points at the last interval.
The final term was an enthralling affair, however Wynyard held on to win 6.5 (41) to 5.2 (32).
Amy Bissett (four goals, 17 disposals) and Olivia Smith (seven tackles, 10 clearances, 25 disposals) were vital contributors for the Cats.
Meanwhile, Emilie Saward (one goal, eight clearances, 24 disposals) and Kirby Gibbons (five clearances, 11 tackles, 17 disposals) were brave in defeat.
In the last Grand Final of the day, Devonport and Wynyard’s senior men’s teams skirmished. Devonport were red-hot early, kicking five goals to none in the opening quarter.
The Magpies piled on an unanswered 6.7 in the second quarter to lead by 73 points at half-time.
Devonport continued on their merry way in the second half, and despite some inaccuracy remained in complete control.

Devonport’s Keegan Lowe (three goals, 12 inside-50s, 37 disposals) and Blair Ryan (one goal, 10 inside-50s, 29 disposals) were brilliant in black and white.
