AFL Queensland is excited to announce the following players have been selected to be part of Team Queensland at the upcoming 2024 Toyota AFL Open.

The 2024 Toyota AFL Open is the AFL's new flagship national event for footballers with an intellectual disability and wheelchair players.

Set to take place for the first time at Brendale’s South Pine Sports Complex, in the City of Moreton Bay, between November 21-26, the 2024 Toyota AFL Open will see more than 200 players represent their state and territory, competing for coveted national titles in the Wheelchair or Inclusion competitions.

Previously held across two events known as the Toyota AFL National Inclusion Carnival and the Toyota Wheelchair AFL National Championships, the 2024 Toyota AFL Open aims to elevate and strengthen the competitions by combining both into one major tournament.

More than 90 matches will run concurrently over the course of the five-day event with the inclusion division utilising the grassed oval space and the wheelchair AFL games taking place on the indoor courts.

The final two days of the competition, on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th November, will be broadcast live and free with all matches available to be watched via the AFL Play YouTube channel and Kayo Freebies.

The new national event and the creation of the AFL Open brand marks the start of a new era for disability inclusion, as the AFL strives to increase participation and boost pathways for people with disability from grassroots to elite.

The Queensland wheelchair team is sponsored by Pathways to Care whilst APM South East Queensland sponsors the inclusion team.

Trisha Squires, Head of AFL Queensland, congratulated all of the players, coaches and team managers on their selection.

"As we look forward to the inaugural 2024 Toyota AFL Open, I want to congratulate all of the players, coaches and support staff selected to represent Queensland,” she said.

“With the home crowd advantage, we are confident our athletes will show the spirit and passion that Queensland is known for.

“I’d also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Pathways to Care and APM South East Queensland for their unwavering support of wheelchair and inclusion football in Queensland.

“Their commitment to creating opportunities for all players is invaluable, and it’s partnerships like these that help drive the growth of disability football across the state."
