Tiwi Bombers will host the Darwin Buffettes on home turf on Saturday at Wurrumiyanga.
The Bombers fought hard last weekend, but despite the efforts of Sarah Darcy, Kate Maxwell and Arthurina Moreen, they were ultimately outclassed by a talented St Marys outfit. They will look to take a step forward this week when they face Darwin in what promises to be a spirited clash.
The Buffettes, meanwhile, are coming off a heavy loss to Nightcliff and will be eager to bounce back and reassert themselves as a contender. With both sides eager to prove a point, expect a fast-paced contest with plenty of physicality.
This matchup between PINT and St Marys looms as one of the most intriguing games of the round. The two powerhouse clubs have set the benchmark in the Women’s Premier League in recent years, and both have once again started the season strongly.
PINT will be keen to atone for last weekend’s disappointing showing against Southern Districts. Despite the result, there were promising performances from Eilish Grundon, Lucy Hamilton and Tayla Hill, who will again be pivotal to the Greenants’ chances.
St Marys have been in strong early-season form and will be out to continue their winning run in what could be a preview of finals footy later in the year.
Wanderers will enter this clash on a high after breaking a four-season win drought last weekend against Palmerston. The Eagles will be determined to build on that momentum when they face Waratah, who remain a consistent and experienced sides. Jemma Ellis, Sophie Armitstead, Ivana Schober were all instrumental in last weekend’s win.
Waratah are fresh off a bye and will be eager to add another notch on the win column. However, the Warriors will be wary of a rejuvenated Wanderers outfit that finally has belief on its side, setting up what could be a much closer contest than recent history suggests.
The round concludes with a Sunday afternoon contest between Nightcliff and Palmerston at Nightcliff Oval.
Palmerston will be desperate to respond after last weekend’s disappointing loss to Wanderers. The Magpies will see this as a chance to redeem themselves, but they will need to be at their absolute best to get near a strong Nightcliff outfit.
The Tigers are unbeaten so far this season and are coming off a strong showing against the Darwin Buffettes last weekend. Hannah Garland was outstanding, booting three goals in a best-on-ground performance, while Eliza Hand and Chloe Saultry also stood tall.
Expect the Magpies to come out with renewed intent, but the Tigers’ home-ground advantage and depth will make them tough to topple.
