Territory Talent Represented in National Woomeras & Medleys Squads

Some of the Northern Territory’s brightest young footballers are set to showcase their skills on the national stage, after being selected in the AFL’s 2025 Woomeras and Medleys squads. 

The two squads, made up of more than 80 Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Multicultural girls aged 15 and under, will take part in a three-day high-performance and leadership camp in New South Wales from July 18–20. 

The Woomeras squad features Indigenous players from across the country, while the Medleys team highlights multicultural talent with at least one parent born overseas. 

A strong NT contingent has been named, with nine players selected in the Woomeras and four in the Medleys, hailing from clubs across Darwin, Palmerston, Alice Springs and the Tiwi Islands. 

Among those selected to represent the Northern Territory in the Woomeras program are Grace Anstess (St Mary’s), Faithe Bouwer (Darwin Buffaloes), Miley Cunningham (Tapalinga Superstars), Harmony Lacey (Palmerston Magpies), Taylah Palmer (South Alice Springs), Mia Puruntatameri (St Mary’s), Amber Nicole Quinn (Palmerston Magpies), Payton Shadforth (Darwin Buffaloes), and Taitum Tipuamantamerri (Darwin Buffaloes). 

The Medleys squad also includes Ropafadzo Mutuva and Regina Rumbewas from Nightcliff, Marlee Smallridge from Waratah, and Eimi Smith from Wanderers. 

Throughout the camp, players will train under some of the game’s most respected mentors, including Danielle Ponter, a dual AFLW premiership player with Territory heritage, who joins the Woomeras coaching panel alongside Bronwyn Gulden and Jacara Egan. 

The weekend will conclude with two Woomeras vs Medleys showcase matches on Saturday, July 19 at Blacktown International Sports Park, following the AFL U18 Girls National Championships clash between the Allies and Western Australia. 

AFL Diversity Talent Programs Manager Narelle Long said: 

“It is exciting to have our 2025 Woomeras and Medleys programs coming together in New South Wales this weekend. 

“For some players the Woomeras and Medleys programs will be their first step into an elite football environment and a fantastic opportunity to advance their skillset on and off the field. 

“Players will take part in football sessions managed by expert coaches that will develop their skills, preparation and game awareness. They will also take part in activities that will help them excel off the field by building their personal skills and leadership qualities. 

“It’s a great thrill for all players to take part in the showcase matches at Blacktown on Saturday, which gives them the chance to put their football talent on display.” 

The matches will be streamed live via the AFL Play YouTube channel, with Game 1 starting at 2:15pm AEST, followed by Game 2 at 4:10pm AEST.
