AFL Queensland wishes to express its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of former Morningside coach and longtime Queensland state selector and Team Manager, Brian Jeffrey following his passing earlier this week.

One of the true gentlemen of Queensland football, Brian arrived in Queensland in 1968 to captain/coach the Panthers after an invite from former Melbourne teammate Terry Johnston.

After the 1968 season, Brian held many off-field positions at Morningside, dedicated to giving back to the game.

Brian’s son Nick would go onto play in three senior premierships at the Panthers in the 90s, whilst one of his grandson’s Tom also played in the 2020 premiership team.

Brian excelled in his roles as a selector and a team manager across many state programs including the Queensland teams from 1983 to 1985 and was recently inducted into the Queensland Australian Football Hall of Fame in 2023.

Brian also had a stint with the Brisbane Lions Reserves as Team Manager during their time in the State League. He was known for providing a welcoming and quality environment for all players.

On behalf of AFL Queensland, we pass on our sincere condolences to the family of Brian, his wife Jan, son Nicholas, daughter-in-law Meagan, and grandsons Tom, Ben and Max.

We also extend our sympathy to the Morningside Football Club and all former Queensland players, officials, members, and supporters both past and present.
