The women's competition again demonstrated its competitiveness, with Batemans Bay edging Belconnen in a three-point thriller while Tuggeranong Valley claimed a valuable victory over Eastlake at Greenway Oval. Meanwhile, Queanbeyan's women produced a commanding four-quarter performance to further strengthen their position as the season enters its decisive stage. Let's take a dive into all the action!
First Grade Women
Tuggeranong Valley vs Eastlake
The day's action began at Greenway Oval, where Tuggeranong Valley secured a 34-point victory over Eastlake, 8.7 (55) to 3.3 (21).
Valley established control early, keeping Eastlake scoreless in the opening quarter while building a four-goal advantage. Although the contest tightened through the middle stages, Eastlake struggled to break through a disciplined Tuggeranong Valley defence that restricted the Demons to just three goals for the afternoon.
A major factor in Valley's success was the outstanding performance of Alana Fraser, who finished with 100 KVA points, 21 disposals and three goals. Fraser's ability to influence both around the ball and inside 50 helped ensure Tuggeranong Valley maintained scoreboard pressure throughout the afternoon.
After holding a 19-point lead at half-time, Valley continued to apply pressure around the contest and generated enough forward opportunities to maintain control through the second half before securing an important victory on home turf.
Morgan Stevens, Ava Brassil, Alana Fraser, Kate Patton, Anne-Maree Ghirardello and Siena Nehua were recognised among Tuggeranong Valley's best performers. Eastlake received strong contributions from Laura Kearney, Elizabeth Gower, Iris Rangiah, Mikelli Garratt, Millie Chisholm and Eleanor Lidbetter.
Belconnen vs Batemans Bay
The closest contest of the women's round unfolded at the SFL Nest, where Batemans Bay held on for a hard-fought three-point victory over Belconnen, 3.3 (21) to 2.6 (18).
The Seahawks made the stronger start and opened a six-point lead at quarter time before Belconnen worked its way back into the contest. The Magpies levelled the scores by half-time and neither side could find separation during a tense third term.
With finals implications hanging over every possession, Batemans Bay found enough composure in the crucial moments to edge ahead and secure a valuable win. While the scoreboard remained unchanged in the final quarter, the Seahawks' work during the opening three terms ultimately proved decisive.
Despite the narrow defeat, Belconnen midfielder Jorja Simpson produced one of the best individual performances of the round, collecting 29 disposals and 12 clearances to finish with 133 KVA points. Her work around stoppages continually gave the Magpies opportunities to push forward and keep the pressure on Batemans Bay throughout the contest.
Isla Judd, Zara Neil, Gabrielle Johnson, Tayah Hancock, Bronte Smith and another key contributor featured among Batemans Bay's best. Belconnen's leading performers included Tiarne Reid, Makayla Patton, Jorja Simpson, Maddie Dwyer, Sarah Crakanthorp and Emma Zouch.
Queanbeyan vs Gungahlin
At Patches Asphalt Park, Queanbeyan delivered one of the most comprehensive performances of the round, defeating Gungahlin 13.11 (89) to 0.1 (1).
The Tigers were in control from the opening bounce, kicking four first-quarter goals and never allowing the Jets an opportunity to establish momentum. Their defensive pressure and ability to control territory ensured Gungahlin was restricted to a solitary behind for the afternoon, while Queanbeyan steadily built its score across all four quarters.
Queanbeyan's attacking strength was highlighted by another influential display from Billie Hamilton, who kicked five goals to spearhead the Tigers' forward line. At the other end of the ground, Gungahlin continued to compete strongly despite the scoreboard pressure, with Samantha Rubino producing an outstanding individual effort that included 25 disposals, 11 tackles and 125 KVA points.
The result further strengthens Queanbeyan's position heading into the final fortnight of the season and highlighted the consistency that has become a hallmark of its campaign.
Jayde Hamilton, Jessica Stramandinoli, Anita Manning, Maddi McLachlan, Jesse Goldski and Madison Lustri led the way for the Tigers. Gungahlin's best contributors included Clare Warwick, Samantha Rubino, Celine Langlands, Belinda Wozniak, Chloe Sullivan and Cristel Mortimer.
First Grade Men
Tuggeranong Valley vs Eastlake
The afternoon concluded at Greenway Oval with Eastlake recording a 64-point victory over Tuggeranong Valley, 17.14 (116) to 7.10 (52).
The Demons built an early lead and maintained scoreboard pressure throughout the contest. While Tuggeranong Valley remained within striking distance during the first half, Eastlake's consistency around stoppages and ability to capitalise on forward opportunities allowed the visitors to steadily extend their advantage.
Eastlake's control of the contest was driven by James Roberts, who combined his midfield influence with scoreboard impact to record 24 disposals, three goals and 130 KVA points. Roberts' ability to find the ball in key moments and convert opportunities helped the Demons steadily build their advantage throughout the afternoon.
A decisive final quarter saw Eastlake kick five goals and put the result beyond doubt, reinforcing their strong form heading into the final two rounds of the season.
James Roberts, Angus Baker, Donald Roberts, Tim Parris, Digby Blacker and Joseph Bangura led the way for the Demons. Tuggeranong Valley's best players included James Rice, Ash McLean, Noah Budd, Joe Carroll, Riley Budd and Jack Sanson, who continued to compete strongly despite the result.
Belconnen vs Batemans Bay
Belconnen produced one of its strongest performances of the season at the SFL Nest, defeating Batemans Bay by 111 points, 22.19 (151) to 5.10 (40).
The Magpies set the tone from the outset, leading by 14 points at quarter time before steadily increasing the margin at every change. A dominant third quarter, which yielded seven goals, effectively put the contest beyond doubt as Belconnen's midfield and forward line combined strongly.
Leading the way for the Magpies was Blake Chapman, who delivered a dominant performance inside 50, finishing with six goals as Belconnen repeatedly capitalised on its territorial advantage. For Batemans Bay, Michael Thane continued his strong season despite the result, gathering 36 disposals and five marks on his way to 132 KVA points.
To Batemans Bay's credit, the Seahawks continued to compete and found periods of effective football despite the scoreboard pressure, but Belconnen's ability to control possession and maintain attacking momentum proved the difference.
Ben Godwin, Blake Chapman, Ryan Turnbull, Andrew Dess, Hamish Saunders and Zac Smith were instrumental in the Magpies' victory. Batemans Bay received strong contributions from Mitch Taylor, Michael Thane, James Collins, Jacob Pike, Max Tiernan and Rex Lee.
Queanbeyan vs Gungahlin
Following the women's match at Patches Asphalt Park, Queanbeyan completed a successful day on home turf with a 65-point victory over Gungahlin, 20.21 (141) to 11.10 (76).
The Tigers established a 10-point quarter-time lead before opening the game up during the second and third terms. Their ability to generate repeat entries and convert opportunities saw the margin extend beyond five goals by three-quarter time before a seven-goal final term sealed a convincing result.
Ryan Moore was instrumental in the Tigers' victory, combining strongly through the midfield and forward half to finish with 25 disposals, four goals and 134 KVA points. His ability to impact both ball movement and scoreboard pressure helped Queanbeyan establish control through the middle stages of the contest.
Gungahlin continued to battle throughout the afternoon and remained competitive around the contest, but Queanbeyan's attacking strength proved difficult to contain as the game progressed.
Bailee Gilbert, Aidan Bowyer, Jack Carroll-Tape, Ben Clough, Lachlan Moresi and Ryan Moore were among Queanbeyan's best performers. For the Jets, Josh Baldwin, Royce Miitze, Jake Thorpe, Ryan Smith, Lachlan Smith and Caleb Henderson worked tirelessly throughout the contest.
The completion of Round 15 moves us into the final two weeks of the season which may prove crucial in the makeup of the Finals Series across both Men's and Women's competitions.
