AFL NSW/ACT has today confirmed the coaches and players selected to represent AFL Sydney and AFL Canberra against Queensland Country next month for the headline fixture of the 2026 Representative Community AFL season.
The best of AFL Sydney and AFL Canberra have been hand selected to represent the state and territory for the Men’s and Women’s Senior Representative games to be played on the Gold Coast on Saturday, July 11.
The Men’s and Women’s matches will be the first time the two sides have met in a Representative series.
Both Men’s and Women’s Squads will bring AFL and AFLW star power with them to the Gold Coast. Three-time All Australian, 2021 Brisbane Lions AFLW Premiership player and 2021 NAB AFLW Grand Final Best on Ground Kate Clarkson (nee Lutkins) will serve in the Women’s team alongside former Richmond Tigers AFLW player and dual-sport athlete (cricket) Jodie Hicks as Assistant Coach.
West Coast Eagles legend and inaugural coach of the Gold Coast Suns Guy McKenna will also feature, returning to the Head Coach position when he coaches the Men’s AFL Sydney-Canberra side – poetically, at his old stomping ground of the Gold Coast.
Head of AFL NSW/ACT Andrew Varasdi said: “Each year the Representative AFL season plays a crucial role in developing the future of Australian Rules in New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
“It’s where the next generation of burgeoning footy talent is formed and provides the best players across AFL Sydney and AFL Canberra with the chance to test themselves at the highest level.
“This season’s clash against Queensland Country will showcase the depth and quality of talent coming through our system and we look forward to watching their performance on the Gold Coast.”
Fans, family and friends will be able to watch the Men’s and Women’s Representative matches against Queensland live via AFL Queensland’s YouTube channel.
