A major upgrade of Bob Prenter Reserve in Southwest Sydney is set to deliver a significant boost to AFL participation, with a new suite of community-focused facilities to benefit the local region. The $7.8 million project marks Stage 2 of the site’s redevelopment, following the completion of new lighting in 2024 (Stage 1). Two years after Campbelltown City Council unveiled new amenities block at Memorial Oval - the home ground of Ingleburn JAFC - this additional investment underscores the ongoing commitment to foster inclusive and accessible AFL opportunities in South-West Sydney.
Scheduled enhancements at Bob Prenter Reserve include accessible change rooms and bathrooms suitable for all abilities, dedicated male and female facilities, a gym, an extended grandstand, a modern canteen, ample storage space, BBQ areas, and brand-new clubrooms. The redevelopment also features a fully equipped kitchen and venue management offices, helping local clubs and community groups to better support players and spectators alike.

Head of AFL NSW/ACT, Andrew Varasdi, highlighted the impact of the local government’s investment on community participation and growth:
“Investment in facilities like Bob Prenter Reserve is critical to the growth of Australian Rules Football in South-West Sydney. Having modern, accessible infrastructure means more people - regardless of age, gender, or ability - can get involved in the game and feel part of a thriving footy community. These upgrades provide a welcoming space for players, umpires, coaches, volunteers, and families to connect, train, and compete at a high level, right in their own backyard'', he said.
“Strong local sporting communities play a huge role in keeping kids active, creating lifelong friendships, and fostering a sense of belonging. With participation in NSW/ACT continuing to grow, we’re committed to working alongside councils and the local Government to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to experience the benefits of AFL - both on and off the field.”

Campbelltown Mayor, Cr Darcy Lound, highlighted the broader health and social benefits of improving sporting infrastructure:
“It’s really important that we at Council, together with the AFL, provide quality facilities – such as good female and male change rooms. We want to encourage people to play AFL and feel comfortable, enjoy their sport, and ultimately achieve good health and wellbeing outcomes for the community by getting people more active.”

Member for Campbelltown, Mr (Greg) Gregory Charles WARREN, MP, applauded the collaboration between the NSW Government and Campbelltown City Council:
“This joint investment - $5 million from New South Wales sport, plus $2.8 million from Campbelltown City Council - will boost the game out here in West and Southwest Sydney. It also demonstrates the government’s commitment to the AFL, which we know is ultimately an investment in our kids'', he said.
“When kids are out on the footy field, kicking the ball around, they’re not just getting exercise; they’re learning teamwork, discipline, mateship, and solidarity. For many in Campbelltown and Southwest Sydney, this is the highlight of their week. So, it’s great to see improved disability access and dedicated female facilities - this community deserves it.”
